ISL’s Water Sector’s Municipal Service Line provides expert assessment, design, construction and commissioning services for water, wastewater, and stormwater systems in communities, while the Water-Wastewater Service Line focusses more heavily on pumped conveyance, storage, and treatment systems.  Both service lines operate in an integrated fashion.

A Little About You

Your cover letter must demonstrate:
  • How do you build relationships and effectively liaise with clients
  • Your approach to prioritizing and organizing work in an environment with multiple deliverables and overlapping schedules

Your resume should show us:
  • Registration as a professional engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta or equivalent (e.g., APEGS)
  • 10+ years’ experience in assessment, detailed design, and construction administration experience for general municipal engineering projects and/or water-wastewater projects such as water reservoirs, booster stations, and sewage pumping stations

Bonus points for:
  • Business development experience
  • Training and mentoring of junior staff


A Little More About the Role

Day to Day Responsibilities:

While no two days will look the same, we are looking for a candidate who has experience in one, some or all of the below points.

Municipal Engineering
  • Planning, analysis, and design of urban hydraulic systems
  • Design of piped systems
  • Grading designs for surface drainage works and roadways
  • General municipal engineering projects, including infrastructure rehabilitation

Water-Wastewater Engineering
  • Undertake and document: process, mechanical and other design calculations in accordance with regulatory requirements and guidelines during all phases of design and construction
  • Independently create conceptual, preliminary and detail designs
  • Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for water/wastewater infrastructure projects

Project Delivery
  • Coordination of CAD design technologists to prepare designs
  • Utility coordination and preparation of crossing agreements
  • Preparation of engineering reports, documents, and drawings
  • Ensuring quality procedures are followed for drawings and reports
  • Preparation of procurement documents including specifications
  • Coordination of tendering processes
  • Contract administration of projects during construction
  • Provide construction support services, workshop drawings review, response to RFIs, mechanical inspection
  • Developing and maintaining ongoing client relationships
