Position: Accountant (Full-time, Contract until December 2025)
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week

Position Summary
The Accountant is responsible for providing support to the Director of Finance in the day-to- day accounting function and acts as the back-up to the Accounting Supervisor when absent. Overall responsibility includes monthly preparation of financial statements and government reports and working directly with the Director to ensure internal control measures and ministry policies are adhered to. This will include reviewing current processes and developing or enhancing processes, policies, and procedures
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for timely and accurate completion of monthly financial statements and government reports.
- Prepares quarterly and annual information for Federal and Provincial governments (HST, WSIB, Tax returns)
- Support the Director in annual preparation of audit to include preparing working papers and providing information as requested.
- Responsible for preparing monthly closing entries, e.g. deferred revenue, allocation entries, intercompany invoices and expense reports
- Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end activities, reconciliations, reporting, government remittances, etc.
- Anticipate and manage issues proactively and an ability to work under defined timelines
- Ensures accounts receivable and payable activities are performed accurately and timely
- A post secondary education in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration
- A minimum of 3-4 years of progressive accounting/finance experience
- Having a CPA designation (actively enrolled in) would be considered an asset
- Must have demonstrated proficiency in Great Plains, Sage 300 —all modules
- Strong background in audit, internal controls and working in a non-profit sector/Ministry funded organization
- Excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts
- Ability to deal with competing priorities and manage time/tasks effectively
- Self-started that take initiative and able to work with a high degree of independence utilizing tact and good judgement
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and MS Outlook) must have advance skill set in excel
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Superior problem solving and judgement skills
- Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Vulnerable Sector screening required
- Proof of full COVID-19 Vaccination or Medical Exemption Certificate required
- Able to work at the site every day
- Full time 6-month contract from March to September 2025
