In recognition of the extraordinary contributions of young professionals at McElhanney, this scholarship is designed to recognize technical and innovative leaders in STEM, while upholding our commitment to creating opportunities for gifted individuals who have displayed technical excellence. The ideal candidate has demonstrated technical excellence or a recent innovation through academic or other accomplishments and has a passion for a career in STEM that is applicable to McElhanney.

Selected recipients who are interested in completing an education program in STEM (see applicable programs below) are awarded up to $5,000 to use towards tuition, textbooks, supplies, and living expenses (on-campus accommodations).

Applications for McElhanney Technical Excellence & Innovation Scholarship will open from September 12, 2022 to October 28, 2022.

Candidates are also encouraged to apply for opportunities to join McElhanney as a co-op student or new graduate during our regular recruitment cycles (winter, summer, and fall), which will be advertised on McElhanney’s website and via most post-secondary institutions co-op communications.

Step 1: Select Your Career Path 
Hands-on career training will be made available through full-time or co-op opportunities which are reserved for individuals who have an interest in one or more of the following career paths. In your application, please select your career path of interest. If you have more than one career path of interest, please rank them from most to least interested.

Step 2: Confirm Your Eligibility 
To qualify for this scholarship, please ensure you meet the following criteria: 
  • You have a passion for innovation or have achieved technical excellence in STEM.
  • You have displayed academic excellence, community leadership, or continued involvement in industry.
  • You are enrolled in a diploma or degree program and have completed at least 3 years of post-secondary education at an accredited Canadian institution that is in one of the mentioned career paths. 

Step 3: Application Instructions
A complete application must be submitted on or before the application deadline and will include the following documents to receive consideration.
  1. Official transcript(s)
  2. Resume that summarizes your experience. 
  3. A cover-letter including a personal statement of 1-2 pages that addresses the following questions: 
  • Describe the goal and results of an innovative project that you participated in. Provide details in how you approached the problem. (This could be a website, series of blogs, an app, fundraising event, etc.).
  • How do you see this project impact the society in general?
  • Why should you be selected as the recipient of this scholarship?
  • How would this scholarship support your career plans?

When answering these questions, you may wish to: consider how your studies or future work in STEM will contribute to innovation in your chosen field; and/or, provide us with any other information you feel elevates your qualities as a candidate.

Step 4: What happens after you apply? 
We screen your resume and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an opportunity to interview with us. This will give you a better chance to present yourself and the reason why you should be the recipient of this scholarship.
