The Opportunity 
McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Structural Engineer to join our well-established team at any McElhanney branches across Western Canada. If you have 5-10+ years of previous structural engineering experience and are looking to work on a diverse range of structural engineering assignments, this is an excellent growth opportunity for you. You will report to the Branch Manager and be a key player in supporting our Structural Engineering group specifically Prince George, Salmon Arm and Vernon offices. You will work closely with other structural engineering groups throughout BC while managing your own projects. This opportunity is ideal for a self-starter with a high degree of initiative, with potential to be invited into ownership at McElhanney – a true employee-owned company!

This role is posted for any of McElhanney’s branches across Western Canada, but the selected candidate will be supporting Prince George, Salmon Arm and Vernon. As our team works with internal clients across the company, there is an opportunity for hybrid remote work.
 
 What You’ll Be Doing: 
  • Provide design, engineering, and site inspections for structural projects,
  • Lead project management of multi-disciplinary projects
  • Assist with proposal preparation and business development
  • Supervise and mentor support staff

What You’ll Bring:
  • 5-10+ years of related design experience
  • Registration in good standing as a P.Eng. in British Columbia or Alberta
  • Proven delivery of structural projects for public and private clients
  • Knowledge & experience with National and Provincial Building Codes including those for steel (CAN/CSA S16), concrete (CAN/CSA A23.3), masonry (CAN/CSA S304) wood (CAN/CSA 086)
  • Proficiency with structural engineering software, such as SAP2000, RISA, and Woodworks
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal as well as a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Strong people skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse range of individuals
  • Project management and proposal writing experience
  • Strong organizational skills and flexibility to manage changing priorities on short notice
  • Well-honed business development and client relationship skills are strongly desired
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel; capable of quickly learning new software programs
  • Aluminum design (CAN/CSA S157) and Bridge design (CAN/CSA S6) would be an asset
