We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Bridge Engineer with a passion for technical mentorship of junior and intermediate staff and a demonstrated track-record leading challenging bridge and transit projects to join our team in Vancouver, BC. The ideal candidate will have experience with leading the pursuit and delivery of major bridge projects, including the design, rehabilitation, seismic retrofit, and / or evaluation of pedestrian and highway bridge structures as well as transit structures.
As our Senior Bridge Engineer, you will have the opportunity to pursue and lead the execution of a variety of bridge projects both conventionally procured and alternate delivery projects. Bridge types range from short to long span including cable supported and arch systems in design and construction engineering. With an established presence in the Lower Mainland, our Vancouver Engineer team has delivered projects for a variety of clients across Western Canada. Aligned with McElhanney’s culture of mentorship and staff career development, the successful candidate will both mentor junior staff and receive mentorship, training, and support under the experienced guidance of our Bridge Practice Lead, Vancouver Branch Manager, and Regional Executives.

What You’ll Be Doing:
- Provide design, engineering expertise, and senior oversight for bridge projects:
- Bridges, from larger structures to single-span structures
- Retaining walls and shallow foundation design
- Pedestrian bridge design
- Participate in strategic planning for the growth of the bridge group
- Contribute to the group budget development and achieve financial KPI’s and targets
- Lead project management and technical delivery of large, multi-disciplinary projects
- Supervise and mentor junior staff to assist with professional development and foster an engaged culture with strong technical capabilities
- Represent McElhanney to the external environment including clients, businesses, and professional associations to enhance McElhanney’s positive public profile
- Nurture existing and develop new strategic relationships with key clients, agencies, and partners
What You’ll Bring:
- Degree in Civil Engineering with15+ years’ experience in the design of bridge structures
- Registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia, or any other Canadian province or territory is required. Additional registrations as a P.E. or S.E. would be an asset
- Proven technical leadership abilities.
- Experience in a leadership role on design-build and other alternate delivery projects in Western Canada and / or the Pacific Northwest would be an asset, with preference for experience in BC
- Experience leading the design of transit structures would be an asset
- Experience with the design and analysis of structures in areas of high seismicity
- Experience or acumen for business development is an asset
- Strong communication skills both written and verbal as well as a positive, team-oriented attitude
- Previous supervisory experience with a proven ability to mentor young professionals
