Mission Graduates is a nonprofit organization that increases the number of K-12 students in San Francisco's Mission District who are prepared for and complete a college education.

We work towards fulfilling our mission through a wide range of after-school support services that serve over 3,600 children, youth and families each year.  Our vision is to transform the culture of our neighborhood so that college becomes the expectation for Mission families, rather than the exception.

Position Overview:

The Volunteer Manager will support the External Relations and Philanthropy (ERP) department in expanding our community group and individual volunteers and of supporters through individual, corporate, and university recruitment, retention and recognition.  Both directly and indirectly, the Volunteer Manager will play an integral role in expanding the overall number of donors to Mission Graduates, helping to strategically steward those donors, ultimately helping us reach philanthropic goals. Additionally, the Volunteer Manager is one of the key liaisons between the ERP department and program staff

Volunteer Program:  Recruiting, Training, Retaining, and Recognizing Volunteers
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, retention, and recognition of new and existing volunteers, and the growth of the volunteer program by 15%.
  • Promote MG at volunteer fairs, manage online volunteer postings, and facilitate targeted presentations, including university and corporate partnerships.
  • Communicate with potential volunteers – screening phone calls, in-person meetings
  • Lead orientation sessions for all new volunteers, manage volunteer requirements
  • Facilitate the placement of volunteers at all MG sites
  • Maintain communication with volunteers, creating monthly evaluations and assessments of volunteer success and satisfaction
  • Plan end of semester recognition events/efforts to support retention
  • Lead on annual Community Appreciation Night, for all donors and volunteers.

Community and Corporate Engagement:  
  • Represent the agency at local events, volunteer fairs, corporate events
  • Design and support program events with group volunteer opportunities
  • Build working relationships with local corporate ERGs (Employee Resource Group) and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) departments
  • Work with Development Associate on recruitment for newly launched Impact Committee and help manage the group and its activities
  • Work with leadership to drive the overall revenue of ERP team budget, focusing on corporate sponsorship fundraising equal to at least $30,000.

University Partnerships:
  • Develop and manage all university volunteer partnerships
  • Act as lead on service-learning opportunities, including recruitment and reflection exercises
  • Develop a structured internship program that benefits programs, and support student growth through orientation and evaluation

Data Management:  
  • Manage Salesforce tracking of current and potential volunteers
  • Keep records of individual, corporate, and pro-bono volunteer hours, utilizing dashboards and reports as appropriate
  • Collaborate with the Development Department to engage volunteers as donors

Program Support:
  • Presence at school sites to facilitate volunteer on-boarding
  • Support in classrooms as needed

Required Qualifications/Skills:
  • Non-profit experience – especially volunteer management (Preferred)
  • Ability to perform several tasks concurrently, time management and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Ability to perform public speaking
  • Strong oral and written communication
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Bilingual Spanish/English (Preferred)
  • Experience working in communities of color with low-income populations is preferred
  • Fingerprint and TB testing prior to hire
