Position Title: Tool Room Attendant
Reports To: Tool Room Supervisor

Position Summary: 
PSI is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state. We have been in business since 1944 and have a large labor force of skilled craftsman with a full support staff of professionals who comprise of engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and human resources.

The Tool Room Attendant issues necessary tools/equipment/supplies to various trades within the company and also performs inventory and stocking of the needed supplies for the warehouse/tool room as necessary.
  A position in this department performs shipping and receiving duties. The Tool room attendant also provides assistance with loading/off-loading of tools, equipment and material upon delivery into the warehouse.  The attendant must keep track of the location of each tool in the organization and make sure that there are sufficient resources available for the construction crafts.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Issue tools and supplies such as painting and welding supplies to various trade
  • Stock supplies
  • Inspect and repair tools as needed
  • Clean the tool room area
  • Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing supplies, tool, equipment, etc.
  • Perform other duties as needed

  • Requires good oral communication skills to communicate effectively with clients, employees, Management, outside vendors etc.
  • Requires concentration, alertness, and attention to detail
  • Requires the ability to work with others with minimal supervision and be a team player
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and procedures
  • Must be able to comprehend and follow occupational safety and health regulations, other state and federal regulations governing the ship repair industry and Company practices and procedures
  • Adheres to NAVSEA standards and regulations
  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Must be able to read and write the English language
  • Duties are varied and regularly require analysis, judgment and discretion
  • Must be able to prioritize work
  • Requires the ability to problem solve
  • Must present a courteous, efficient and professional demeanor, even under stressful situations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Working Conditions/Job Environment
Environmental Exposure:
  • Inside: 70%                         Outside: 30%
  • Temperature: Outside temperature and air-conditioned company vehicle and office
  • While outdoors, employee will be exposed to all types of weather conditions and temperatures.  Employee may be in contact with materials (i.e., dust and particles) and noxious odors (i.e., diesel) normally found at a shipyard Employee will also be exposed to high levels of noise and vibrations. Employee may also be exposed to wet and humid conditions
  • Vision and Hearing:  Must be able to judge or distinguish distance and space relationships.  Must be able to differentiate and/or identify colors
  • Must be able to hear within a normal range with or without a hearing device
  • Must be able to carry, lift, push/pull, bend, and squat up to 50 lbs

  • Must show proof of your legal right to work in the United States
  • This position requires US Citizenship due to security clearance required for base access
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Must be able to successfully obtain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sites
  • All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening and background check before employment begins. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification
  • Valid State of Hawaii drivers’ license in good standing, class 3 or higher
  • Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to work and other job sites on time for the start of shift
