Reno Staffing is looking for Industrial Sewing Machine Operators for a chair and seating manufacturer in Sparks!

Monday- Friday 7am – 3:30pm

Starting Wage is $14.60 to $22 depending on experience.

  • High school diploma or GED is preferred
  • Industrial Sewing experience is highly preferred

Job summary:

Industrial sewing machine operators operate and tend sewing machines in order to perform sewing operations on upholstery for office chairs. This includes joining, reinforcing and decorating upholstery in order to craft our various models of chairs. Our sewing machine operators mount attachments such as needles and pattern blades as well as adjust the sewing machines according to the specifications provided to them for the project at hand. Our industrial sewing machine operators also adjust machine controls and regulate stitching speeds for every project that they work on. It is important for all industrial sewing machine operators to possess in depth knowledge of industrial sewing machinery. They also need to have sound hand-eye coordination and be able to cope with moderate physical effort.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Starts and operates or tends industrial sewing machines that automatically join, reinforce, or decorate upholstery material or fabricated articles.
  • Draw thread through guides, tensions, and needles as well as adjust industrial sewing machine functions, according to upholstery type.
  • Positions item under needle, using marks on machine, clamp or template, edges of upholstery, or markings on upholstery as guides.
  • Turns knobs, screws, and dials to adjust settings of the sewing machine, according to garment style and observation of operation.
  • Replaces and re-threads needles.
  • Guides upholstery or upholstery parts under the sewing machine needle and presser foot to sew parts of material together.
  • Positions upholstery or article in clamps, template, or hoop frame prior to automatic operation of machine.
  • Sews replacement parts or missing stitches, according to repair tickets.
  • Observes sewing machine operation to detect defects in stitching or machine malfunction, and notifies supervisor.
  • Folds or stretches edges or length of items, while sewing, to facilitate forming specified sections.
  • Removes holding devices and finished item from machine.
  • Selects supplies, such as fasteners and thread, according to specifications or characteristics of upholstery.
  • Replaces sewing machine parts and performs basic maintenance, such as oiling machine.
  • Cuts material and threads, using scissors.

  • Vision, hearing and speaking to meet performance standard
  • Required to sit for long periods of time
  • The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • The ability to time your movements or the movement of a piece of equipment in anticipation of changes in the speed and/or direction of a moving object or scene.
  • The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • The ability to safely lift and carry up to 15 pounds on an occasional basis
