We are looking for a talented Autochemistry Lead to join our Tacoma, WA laboratory. The Autochemistry Lead acts as a lead technical expert in the screening analysis of biological fluids for drugs of abuse.  This individual leads the autochemistry department as it relates to problem solving, process optimization, communication and reporting, record keeping, and other laboratory operations in a forensic environment.

The schedule for this position will be Monday-Friday, 10am-6:30pm. 

Essential Duties
  • Specimen screening for Drugs of Abuse on Olympus and Beckman Coulter platforms (AU640, AU5430, AU5840)
  • Specimen Validity screening and confirmation (ph meter, refractometry, etc.)
  • Collaborate with operations leadership to solve work-related problems within or between departments and sites; answering and resolving questions/issues daily
  • Read and maintain the Autochemistry department documentation: SOPs, regulations, best practices, guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures
  • Ensure department is compliant with all policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and best practices for: NLCP (SAMHSA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), safety, environmental, hazardous materials, equipment, and security
  • Ensure that all work is complete, accurate and meets our high-quality standards
  • Ensure department inventory is monitored and maintained completing weekly counts and orders.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field, required
  • 1+ years’ experience with Automated Chemistry testing, required
    • 3+ years’ experience, highly preferred
  • Familiarity with Olympus and Beckman Coulter analyzers, highly preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems software
  • Knowledge of CLIA and CAP (highly desirable)
  • Medical terminology (highly desirable)
  • High degree of computer literacy
  • Use of Microsoft Office in particular Word and Excel
  • Attention to detail
