The Organization
The New Mexico Oil & Gas Association (NMOGA) is a coalition of oil and natural gas companies, individuals, and stakeholders dedicated to promoting the safe and environmentally responsible development of oil and natural gas resources in New Mexico. Representing over 1,000 members, NMOGA works with elected officials, community leaders, industry experts, and the general public, to advocate for responsible oil and natural gas policies and increase public understanding of industry operations and contributions to the state. 
New Mexico's oil and natural gas activity is concentrated in two areas: the Permian Basin in the southeast and the San Juan Basin in the northwest. New Mexico is one of the United States' leading producers, ranking 3rd in annual oil production and 9th in annual natural gas production.
Oil and natural gas contributes to $2.8 billion (34%) to New Mexico’s state budget, providing over one-third of the funding for schools, infrastructure, healthcare, and public safety.

The Position
Chief Executive Officer
Location:   Santa Fe
Reports to:  Board of Directors
Budget and staff:   6 full time staff members

Skills and Qualifications
  • Established track record as a strategic thought leader with a proven ability to reach consensus across a broad array of key stakeholders, including, but not limited to, state and federal legislative and regulatory policy makers, New Mexico state and administration and agencies, New Mexico business community representatives and non-governmental organizations
  • Brings immediate credibility with key constituencies.
  • Capable of navigating both sides of the aisle in a nonpartisan fashion.
  • Significant policy experience.
  • Competent communicator, able to translate complex industry processes into a communications strategy.
  • Proven personnel management and developing skills of staff.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree preferred.
  • 15 years relevant work experience.
  • Experience managing a budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for NMOGA.
  • Communicates consistently and effectively, keeping the Board fully informed on strategy implementation and emerging issues. Have strong communication and strategic skills, including but not limited to use of digital media campaigns, on-the-record interviews advocating the positions of the organization, and effective issue management and communications strategy. Also, coalition building and maintenance.
  • Ability to recognize change and adjust forward plans to accommodate changing environment.
  • Promotes interest and active participation NMOGA’s activities, reports outcomes to the Board of Directors.
  • Maintains effective relationships and collaborates with other organizations and stakeholders to achieve policies and objections of the organization (ex. API, IPANM, Chambers of Commerce).
  • Develop and maintains effective relationships with the federal, state, and local elected officials.
  • Provides overall leadership for identifying public policy direction and appropriate mechanism to affect change.
  • Lead membership activities, including membership development, retention and activities.
  • Provide effective outreach and communications, representing NMOGA in public speaking appearances and with media.
  • Oversee effective management of staff and operations, ensuring compliance with NMOGA policies and bylaws.
  • Position NMOGA as the preeminent credible source of information and education about the oil and gas sector in the state of New Mexico.
