Responsibilities:
- Manage the QA/QC team and quality operations, coaching and mentoring the team for success and ensuring daily tasks and projects are completed effectively
- Review and update quality policies and documentation, ensuring implementation throughout the company, as well as supplier and distribution facilities
- Monitor quality and food safety performance of raw ingredients, in-process liquids, and finished products throughout shelf life, collecting and managing data, reporting on KPIs, and developing improvement strategies
- Manage the QA budget, ensuring adequate stock of supplies, and maintenance of lab equipment
- Develop and deliver quality related training to staff to improve knowledge, efficiency, and reduce risk of quality failures
- Monitor and report on consumer complaints, collaborating with department managers to investigate root causes and implement solutions
- Conduct control point audits and inspections, identifying deviations and providing guidance to management on best practices and resolutions
- Ensure the brewery operates within compliance of quality, food safety, and environmental regulations, flagging potential issues and regulatory changes that may affect the business
- Provide expertise and support as part of the management team regarding Steam Whistle’s quality and food safety programs, goals and future development
- Experience of managing and coaching a team
- Bachelor’s degree in science related field such as microbiology or food science
- Deep understanding of quality systems and process improvement processes
- Working knowledge of operations, environmental standards, regulations and sustainable development
- Previous experience working in alcohol beverage is preferred
- Ability to apply high level root-cause and problem solving skills at all levels
- Foundational knowledge in brewing, packaging or beverage manufacturing is preferable
- Demonstrated understanding of the concepts of manufacturing such as 6 Sigma, GMP, Process Capability, World Class Manufacturing, TQA, etc., and be able to establish and implement plans
- Strong interpersonal skills, able to interact confidently and effectively with multiple departments and employees
