Chorus I/II Teacher Job Description

The Chorus I/II teacher leads the fifth and sixth grade treble chorus (approximately 23 students) during Winsor’s Performing Arts Block (PAB) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:05–1:55 p.m. In collaboration with the Winsor choir director, the Chorus I/II teacher selects developmentally appropriate repertoire, teaches healthy vocal technique, sight reading, and performance skills, and prepares the ensemble for several performance opportunities throughout the school year. Most importantly, the teacher fosters a love of singing and helps students connect with the music by exploring the meaning, emotion, and expressive potential of each song.
Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the choir director on repertoire selection, concert planning, and instructional strategies

Teach engaging, developmentally appropriate choral rehearsals with an emphasis on vocal technique, musical literacy, ensemble skills, and the joy of music-making

Utilize Canvas (Winsor’s learning management system) to communicate with students and families

Provide checklist-based grades at mid-semester and end-of-semester intervals

Write brief bi-monthly curriculum updates for families

Share practice recordings or resources as needed to support student learning
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in music or music education (Master’s preferred)

Minimum of two years of experience working with youth choirs, ideally with treble voices

Strong classroom management skills and a student-centered teaching approach

Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and families
