Automotive Mechanic

Position Summary
The Automotive Mechanic is responsible for managing, maintaining and repairing the fleet to ensure all vehicles are safe, operational, and ready for service. This role involves diagnosing mechanical issues, performing routine maintenance, and utilizing fleet management software to track repairs and maintenance schedules.

Qualifications
  • ASE Certification preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a mechanic in an automotive repair facility.
  • Associate degree in automotive technology or equivalent experience.
  • Must be at least 23 years of age.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the state of legal residence.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred (training and support provided if not currently licensed).
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record (as verified by MVR).
  • Ability to pass a company-sponsored DOT Physical Exam, Drug Screen, Criminal Background Check, and Defensive Driving course.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills (email, Excel, Word) and familiarity with fleet maintenance software.
  • Must have own basic hand tools (Company provides major equipment such as diagnostic scan tools).
Primary Responsibilities
The Automotive Mechanic will be responsible for managing, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining fleet vehicles, ensuring they remain in optimal working condition.

Duties include:


Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
  • Diagnose mechanical issues using visual inspections and diagnostic equipment.
  • Perform repairs and replacements on engines, brakes, electrical systems, transmissions, and suspensions.
  • Conduct routine maintenance, including oil changes, tire rotations, fluid level checks, and filter replacements.
  • Utilize specialized diagnostic tools to identify and resolve vehicle issues efficiently.
Fleet Management & Compliance
  • Use work order management software to create, track, and update digital work orders.
  • Monitor repair progress, track labor hours, and generate detailed reports on repair times and costs.
  • Manage vehicle maintenance schedules and keep accurate records using fleet tracking software.
Inventory & Facility Management
  • Maintain and track inventory of parts, supplies, and tools, placing orders when necessary.
  • Schedule third-party repairs, obtain estimates, and process invoices.
  • Ensure the grounds, garage, workspace, and office areas are clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Stay updated on industry advancements by attending training and obtaining relevant certifications.
  • Install and upfit vehicles with necessary equipment, such as radios, cameras, and safety supplies.
  • Travel to various locations for maintenance related duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support fleet operations and ensure vehicle readiness.
Physical Requirements
  • Speaking: Regularly communicate with internal and external contacts.
  • Vision: Must have acute vision for near and far-distance observation and reading documents.
  • Lifting & Carrying: Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry 10-50 lbs.
  • Physical Activity: Frequent standing, walking, reaching, grasping, and lifting objects. May require sitting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and crawling.
  • Environmental Exposure: Work in outdoor conditions, including exposure to weather elements, fumes, and loud noise.
  • Typing & Computer Use: Frequent use of electronic devices for tracking work orders and communications.
  • Driving: Travel between locations, perform test drives, and respond to service calls.
