POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is Hybrid with an in-office requirement of 1-2 days per week.
Salary Range: $60,000 - $65,0000, DOE

The Payroll Tax Specialist maintains tax records and prepares tax returns, related schedules, and related reports. Prepares paperwork for local, state and federal level returns.  Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Their duties also include carrying out research and evaluating or settling complicated issues or queries forwarded by colleagues, department personnel, external company representatives and clients. 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (Core Competencies)

 
  • Work as a specialist on payroll tax subject matter and as a resource to other personnel and clients in the aspect of setting up tax filing accounts and communicating with both federal and state tax agencies. 
  • Evaluate, validate, and analyze payroll tax documents and reports for veracity; and perform the appropriate modifications or adjustments through entry of records or other approved procedures
  • Work on and analyze intricate issues which require comprehensive knowledge of payroll procedures and policies
  • Perform research, and explain various intricate specialized information in reaction to requests
  • Offer advice and suggestions; giving guidance to staff and management on procedures and rules operating in the organization
  • Monitor overall activities of the payroll tax function, including all payroll processing activities in collaboration with the Payroll Tax and Compliance Manager
  • Weekly, monthly, quarterly, reporting and reconciliations, Master Tax updates, payroll tax updates and all year-end activities to include W2/W3 processing
  • Follow all internal and external rules of compliance, regulation and confidentiality.
  • Tax Funding for clients including identifying and resolving reconciling items related to the tax processing
  • Reporting and payment preparation process activity for client driven payments to ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • Act as a subject matter expert/resource for Workforce Go! operations and services.
  • Ongoing accurate documentation of all payroll tax policies and procedures, including adherence to current company record keeping policies and procedures and review with the Payroll Tax and Compliance Manager
  • Recommend and participate in the development of new procedures and policies related to the department. 
  • Perform research, and explain various intricate specialized information in reaction to requests
  • Complete other duties and special projects as assigned or requested by Management.
 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 

  • Strong command of the English language (written and verbal) and understand/practice proper email etiquette
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities independently and simultaneously and maintain deadlines
  • Results oriented; driven to achieve goals and objectives
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Working knowledge of the payroll and human resources outsourcing industry
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and other common business software
  • Work well under various demanding situations
  • Ability to gather and analyze information and effectively communicate the findings
  • Ability to quickly address the needs of our clients and to tactfully handle difficult situations
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Kronos Work Force Ready platform experience (preferred)
 

CREDENTIALS & EXPERIENCE:

 
  • Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of experience in the tax field or 4+ years experience related directly to payroll tax in a corporate and/or service provider environment
  • Master Tax payroll tax system experience in a taxpayer and/or service provider environment preferred
  • Experience in Payroll or Human Resources Outsourcing; Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred  
  • Experience with client service/relationship management is a must
