About the Role
As the Advocacy Associate, you’ll be responsible for working with State legislative and agency policymakers, AIHA members, and allied groups to advance AIHA’s public policy priorities. You’ll also serve as a key advisor to the Director of Government Relations, providing strategic recommendations and timely analyses. This position involves quite a bit of writing and presenting, so excellent writing and public speaking skills are a must. This position will report to the Director, Government Relations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • State, Local Sections, and Allied Groups
    • Research, track, and analyze State legislation and regulations
    • Engage AIHA's Local Sections (chapters) and technical experts in grassroots and grasstops government relations
    • Work with State legislators and agency leaders to advance AIHA’s public policy priorities
    • Work with allied outside groups, building and joining coalitions to advance AIHA’s public policy priorities
    • Together with the Director of Government Relations, organize remote and/or in-person meetings with State policymakers and AIHA members
  • Additional Areas
    • Provide administrative support to the Director, Government Relations
    • Author letters to State policymakers, action alerts to AIHA members, blog articles, research reports, and related materials
    • Deliver presentations to AIHA Local Sections and other groups
    • Additional duties, as necessary

Education & Experience
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in political science, public policy, communications, business, nonprofit management, or related fields
  • Required:
    • Minimum of 2 years related experience
    • Familiarity with State legislative procedures
  • Preferred:
    • Association or non-profit experience
    • Prior experience in a legislative office or agency, or firm working on State issues

Local travel may be required for this position.

Residency Requirement
Based on our business set-up and to maximize remote work opportunities, AIHA only employs individuals who live in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia. To be considered a candidate must live in, or be willing to relocate to, Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia.

Vaccine Requirement

Salary & Benefits
The pay for this position ranges from $50k to $60k based on experience and qualifications for the role.
