About AIHA PAT Programs
AIHA PAT Programs offers renowned proficiency testing to occupational hygiene and environmental monitoring laboratories and provides participant labs an opportunity to improve and refine the analytical skills for their staff, test new methods, or train analysts.
The primary mission of AIHA PAT Programs is to assist participants in pursuing excellence in laboratory services through external quality control program assessment and to promote the practice of proficiency testing both nationally and internationally. Our programs allow an organization to demonstrate the ability to correctly analyze samples of common workplace and environmental contaminants and are open to all interested laboratories.

About the Role
The Quality Specialist is responsible for enhancing the quality management system of PAT Programs and reports to the Manager, AIHA PAT Programs. This position will assist with quality system maintenance and offer general program support in compliance with ISO/IEC Standard 17043. This position works closely with the PAT team to ensure that the programs are administered in accordance with relevant internal, international, and national program requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Quality System
    • Maintains procedures or work instructions in the document management system through routine staff discussion and process audits
    • Manages a log of feedback and complaints and is responsible for on-going corrective action and risk assessment activities
    • Facilitates team discussion using risked-based thinking to enhance continuous improvement activities
    • Assists the Managing Director in the performance of the annual Internal Audit
 
  • Quality Assurance
    • Ensures calendar tasks are met at target, identifies blockers, and applies quality principles to facilitate completion
    • Verifies and validates critical program outputs
 
  • Program Support
    • Creates detailed reports of sample performance trends using control charts
    • Distributes regulatory and accreditation body reports
 
  • Subcontractor Engagement
    • Coordinates with PT vendors to finalize the yearly Program Schedule
    • Receives, stores, reviews, and provides feedback on Analytical Reports from subcontractor
    • Monitors the status of subcontractor corrective actions and requests updates, as necessary
    • Catalogs and maintains records of subcontractor controlled documents
 
  • Participant Management
    • Responds promptly and professionally to routine questions, inquiries, and complaints from program participants, potential customers, and outside parties
    • Generates and manages annual satisfaction survey process
 
  • Marketing and Outreach
    • Assists with the generation of social media content
    • Participates in marketing campaign discussions and outreach


Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree, in a science preferred; or five years related laboratory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience under an ISO system (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 17025, etc.)
  • CQIA (Quality Improvement Associate), or similar, or willingness to attain

Travel
Travel is not anticipated for this position.

Residency Requirement
Based on our business set-up and to maximize remote work opportunities, AIHA only employs individuals who live in Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia. To be considered a candidate must live in, or be willing to relocate to, Washington, DC, Maryland, or Virginia.

Vaccine Requirement
AIHA requires all members of staff to be fully vaccinated from COVID-19 and present proof of vaccination status. Requests for exemptions from this requirement due to a medical condition or sincerely-held religious belief or practice will be considered. AIHA follows the CDC’s definition of “fully vaccinated.”

Salary & Benefits
The pay for this position ranges from $50k to $60k based on experience and qualifications for the role. AIHA offers comprehensive health, dental and vision benefits partially funded by the organization.
