Role Summary
Take orders, prepare and serve alcoholic, non-alcoholic beverages and meals to guests, courteously, enthusiastically, and efficiently according to established specifications.  Maintain stock/supplies and cleanliness of outlet equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Maintain complete knowledge of particular characteristics and description of every wine by the glass and major wine on the wine list.
  2. Maintain complete knowledge of designated glassware and garnishes for each drink.
  3. Maintain complete knowledge of all liquor brands, wines, beers and non-alcoholic selections available.
  4. Maintain complete knowledge of and strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors, intoxicated persons and drunk driving.
  5. Maintain complete knowledge of table numbers, room capacity, hours of operations, menus, prices and dress code of assigned outlet.
  6. Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment; using only as intended.
  7. Maintain complete knowledge and comply with all departmental policies and service procedures.
  8. Complete opening side duties:
  9. Inspect cleanliness and condition of bar and service areas; rectify any deficiencies.
  10. Prepare garnishes and mixes, log all products requisitioned from kitchen.
  11. Replenish supplies in bars throughout shift, including ice.
  12. Greet guests and take their orders utilizing suggestive/up-selling techniques.  Properly input orders into POS system and verify receipt by kitchen.
  13. Legibly document orders using established system when POS is down and verify receipt by kitchen.  Assist bar servers as required.
  14. Anticipate guest needs, respond promptly and acknowledge guest even when busy.
  15. Prepare espresso and cappuccino for guests.
  16. Maintain positive guest relations.
  17. Be familiar with all resort services/features and local attractions/activities to respond accurately to any guest inquiry.
  18. Answer outlet telephone within three rings, using correct greeting and telephone etiquette.
  19. Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of bartop, tables, service areas and outlet itself.
  20. Remove soiled wares from bartop and tables to dishwashing area.
  21. Handle guest complaints, ensuring guest satisfaction and inform Manager when necessary.
  22. Present guest checks and process payments.  Adhere to all cash handling and credit policies/procedures.
  23. Extend courteous departures when guests leave outlet.
  24. Close all guest checks in the POS system immediately upon payment.
  25. Clean bar top as guests depart.
  26. Clean glassware in glass machine/three compartment sink.
  27. Direct and assist barbacks and cocktail servers in their job functions to ensure smooth and efficient service to guests.
  28. Clearly communicate last call at designated closing time to guests and cocktail servers.
  29. Fill out allocation sheet and place in accounting mailbox at end of shift.
  30. Legibly document designated items on the spill sheet.
  31. Ensure maximum usage of all supplies to attain budgeted beverage cost and to prevent waste.
  32. Complete closing duties:
  33. Legibly document pertinent information in outlet log book.
  34. Complete all closing reports in the POS system.
  35. Count bank at end of shift; complete cashier reports and drop receipts; secure bank.
  36. Participate in and support hotel and company efforts towards sustainability and environmental initiatives as part of the Planet Auberge program.

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Assist with weekly/monthly inventories.
  2. Follow maintenance program and cleaning schedule.
  3. Update bar menus and wine lists.
  4. Legibly document maintenance needs on work orders and submit to Manager.
Perform other duties as directed, developed or assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  1. Minimum 21 years of age to serve alcoholic beverages.
  2. 3 year experience as a bartender or bar back.
  3. Ability to satisfactorily communicate in English with guests, management and co-workers to their understanding.

Desirable
  1. High school graduate or equivalent and some college.
  2. Certification of previous training in liquor, wine and food service.
  3. Certification in alcohol awareness program
  4. Computer training on POS system.
  5. Customer service training.
  6. Ability to communicate in a language other than English.

SKILLS
Required
  1. Ability to understand guests’ service needs.
  2. Ability to access and input information into POS system.
  3. Ability to be well organized, maintain concentration and think clearly when preparing drinks and providing service to guests within any given period of time.
  4. Ability to focus on detail.
  5. Ability to exercise good judgment in determining potentially intoxicated and/or under aged guests.
  6. Ability to maintain good coordination while preparing and serving orders quickly.
  7. Ability to perform job functions with minimal supervision.
  8. Ability to work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
  9. Ability to coordinate bar backs and cocktail servers in their job functions to ensure smooth and efficient service to guests and to assist when necessary.
  10. Ability to provide legible written communication.
  11. Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations and cash handling experience.
