Auberge Resorts recently named one of the top 3 hotel brands by Travel & Leisure for the second year, seeks an individual to oversee the engineering and facilities for the newly renovated and restored Malliouhana Resort on Anguilla in the British West Indies. 
 
The resort, which will re-open in December of 2018, will be expanded from 44 rooms to 63 rooms and suites, including new beachfront suites.  Newly designed food and beverage areas will include a 60-seat restaurant, a 60-seat bar/casual outdoor restaurant, and a new beach bar.  A new full-service spa with six treatment rooms is being added to the amenities.
 

 ESSENTIAL ABILITIES

  • Ability to satisfactorily communicate with guests,  management, and co-workers to their fullest understanding.

  • Ability  to provide  legible communication.

  • Ability to accurately compute mathematical calculations. Familiarity with yield management and cost control.

  • Ability to enforce hotel’s standards,  policies and procedures with the Engineering Department staff.

  • Ability to create and maintain a positive work environment to ensure an excellent work relationship  with other departments and to ensure  the guest expectations.

  • Ability to be a  clear thinker and be able to analyze and resolve problems pertaining to hotel standards.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments and delegate work.

  • Ability to direct the performance of staff and follow up with corrections where needed.

  • Ability to train and motivate staff on a daily staff basis to maintain a cohesive team.

  • Ability to focus attention on details by doing daily rounds of the public areas and back of house engineering section to ensure a safe and well-kept work environment.

  • Ability to perform job functions to standards, under pressure, ie; failure of equipment affecting guest safe and/or comfort and the ability  to quickly re-establish said equipment  to normal operations.

  • Ability to work without direct supervision.

  • Ability to maintain excellent guest relations. Maintain excellent communication with all other hotel departments about their needs.

  • Ability to ensure that all special guest/complaints are met with and resolve in a timely manner.

  • Ability  to hold meetings on a regular basis to ensure that goals in training, safety and all maintenance functions are being met.

  • Ability to prepare engineering work schedules.

  • Ability  to implement all safety and emergency procedures at the hotel.

 

SUPERVISORY  RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages employees in the Engineering  Department.

  • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Engineering  Department.

 

QUALIFICATIONS  REQUIREMENTS

Educational and Required  Skills: High  School graduate or equivalent and five or  more years of experience in  hospitality engineering, two  years of management experience  preferred.

 

Language  Skills:

  • Ability to read,  analyze and interpret general business periodicals,  professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, employees,  customers and the general public.

Mathematical  Skills:

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest,  commissions, proportions, percentages,  area circumference and volume.

  • Ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.    Must have a basic knowledge of electronics, electrical circuits, and wiring, HVAC and hydraulics.    Must have the ability to read and interpret blue prints and wiring diagrams.

 

Reasoning  Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.     

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstracts and concrete variables.
