Founded in 1999, BUILD uses entrepreneurship-based, experiential learning to ignite the potential of youth in under-resourced communities and equip them for high school, college and career success. BUILD’s unique program offers students a four-year entrepreneurship experience designed to develop 21st Century Skills and motivate student engagement in school.  Starting in 9th grade, BUILD students work with their peers and community mentors to develop business ideas, pitch to funders and launch real businesses.  As they journey through high school, BUILD provides students with support in navigating the college application process and the opportunity to explore college and career options, while expanding their businesses or opting into community internships.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager the Junior Staff Accountant (JSA) will be primarily responsible for accounts payable, credit card reconciliation and provide general ledger accounting support. The JSA will process semimonthly A/P and employee reimbursements. In addition, the JSA will act as the accounting liaison with the program staff in order to fund incubator accounts for BUILD student teams and review incubator activity. The JSA will be trained to provide backup support for Accounts receivable. The JA will also provide accounting support during budgeting, and reporting as needed.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Process all approved invoices, reimbursements and petty cash in Concur for semimonthly disbursement.
  • Respond to all vendor and employee inquiries regarding invoices, expenses and transfer requests.
  • Review Concur accounting documents to ensure accuracy of information and make correcting entries.
  • Reconcile monthly corporate credit card.
  • Maintain fixed asset ledger.
  • Finance lead for DASH incubator system.
  • Prepare journal entries and reconciliations of GL accounts.
  • Provides customer service to all regions – answering AP questions related to system use, procedures and payment status.
  • Maintains A/P files.
  • Assist with month-end closing, annual audit and annual federal and state registrations/filing.
  • Cross train and provide backup to AR Accountant.
  • Other duties as assigned and requested.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required.
  • One to Three years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of non-profit accounting and government grant reporting a plus.
  • Strong problem solving skills, basic accounting principles knowledge, documentation skills, data analysis and multi-tasking skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable accounts receivable/general ledger systems and procedures, financial chart of accounts and financial procedures.
  • Proficient in hosted accounting software and Excel required. Experience with Intacct a plus.
