Position Summary:
The Nurse Manager for the Emergency Department is tasked with overseeing the implementation of strategies that ensure top-tier quality, exceptional patient safety, and an outstanding patient and family experience. This role emphasizes staff development, empowerment, and fostering collegial relationships to promote best practices in nursing care. The Nurse Manager is responsible for resource allocation to ensure efficient, effective, and compassionate care, along with fiscal responsibility. This position requires coordination of care across departments to encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and communication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the Emergency Department, SSH Clinical Leaders, and Medic 55 ALS Program.
- Oversee recruitment, selection, and retention of nursing personnel.
- Ensure proper orientation, education, credentialing, and continuous professional development for staff.
- Promote an environment that supports staff development and empowerment.
- Facilitate project management and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Maintain knowledge of management systems and processes.
- Comply with The Joint Commission requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate from an accredited Registered Professional Nurse Program; Master's in Nursing or a related field.
- License: Current NYS license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Professional Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required through the RQI system during clinical orientation.
- Basic Coronary Care within 6 months of hire.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification within 90 days of hire.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) required within 18 months of hire.
- Preferred: Certified Emergency Nursing within one year.
- Required Experience:
- 3-4 years of experience as an RN in an Emergency Department.
- At least one year of experience as a Nurse Manager.
- Moderate sedation competency within six months of hire.
- Skills:
- Effective communication with staff, patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
- Ability to establish effective work relationships and lead towards organizational objectives.
- Analytical skills to assess departmental needs, develop, and implement interventions.
- Proficiency in project management and multitasking under pressure.
- Computer literacy, including word processing and spreadsheets.
- Preferred: Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Meditech
