GENERAL SUMMARY: Installs and repairs systems, apparatus, and components of industrial machinery and equipment by performing the following duties. (This is a multi-skilled position, with electrical/electronic maintenance making up the primary essential duties.)

       Education and/or Experience:  Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school and two-three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

       Language Skills:  Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to supervisors and other employees.

       Mathematical Skills:  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

       Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

       Computer Skills:  Ability to enter data into existing computer software, following on-screen prompts or written instructions.

       Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:  Electrical Maintenance Certification desirable.

       Other Skills and Abilities:  Blueprint reading; electrical/electronic schematic interpretation; read and interpret safety instructions, operating instructions and general work instructions.  Ability to perform multi-skilled tasks including mechanical maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical drives and advanced electrical controls and automation.

       Other Qualifications:  Knowledge of electronic and electro-hydraulic systems.  Willingness to learn and apply multiple job-related skills.  Welding knowledge desirable.


EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS/TOOLS USED:  Electronic testing instruments; Measuring tools such as tape measure and micrometer; forklift; overhead crane; portable electric welder; basic hand tools.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following: (Other duties may be assigned, including but not limited to cross training and housekeeping.  Responsibilities also include attention to safety according to all safety rules.)
  1. Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment.
  2. Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, lighting fixtures, control systems and PLC’s.
  3. Tests malfunctioning machinery.  Discusses malfunction with supervisor to diagnose malfunction, using schematics, diagrams, manuals, PLC programs and appropriate test equipment.
  4. Replaces faulty electrical components of machine such as relays, switches, motors, position sensing devices, bearing, and wiring.
  5. Properly documents all activities and work orders per maintenance department guidelines.
  6. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices as instructed for project support.
  7. Performs preventive maintenance by lubricating and cleaning parts, replacing components, and following other PM procedures.
  8. Provides backup support for retooling activities.
  9. Coordinates with maintenance mechanics to accomplish overall plant maintenance requirements.
  10. Perform other duties as instructed by management.
