This position may perform one or both of the following engineering functions:  Part Engineering, Dimensional Engineering. Incumbent provides expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of products, processes, plans and procedures.  Designs methods to improve efficiency in production, reduce process variability and assure compliance with approved methods and quality standards.  Effective decisions will typically result in successful part programs and considerable financial benefit to the company.

  • Participate in the concurrent engineering process with customers.
  • Manufacturing process review and support.
  • Develop and maintain necessary tools and procedures to meet customers’ blueprints.
  • Participate in correcting engineering related problems.
  • Review customer drawings and specification changes for impact.   
  • Issue technique cards and work instructions.
  • Develop part router in accordance with CPP procedures and customer requirements.
  • Identify and address safety considerations within the scope of their job responsibilities.
  • Participate in correcting engineering related problems.
  • Work with customers to ensure that the dimensional tolerances are compatible with process capabilities.
  • Prepare plans for dimensional development of the casting including trial pieces, fixture concepts, and straightening techniques.
  • Determine shrink factors and special information to be used in each tool.  Assist in the review of tool concepts and in providing information to tool vendors.
  • Using dimensional inspection results and statistical analysis identify areas requiring further dimensional development.
  • Develop written action plans documenting dimensional problems and identifying plans to address those problems.
  • Work with the Product Engineer and the computer database to determine costs of specific operations and pursue appropriate cost reduction programs.
  • Identify and address safety considerations within the scope of their job responsibilities.
  • Comply with all safety, DOT, HAZMAT and environmental policies and procedures
  • Work on/participate in special projects as needed or assigned by Management

  • Education: 4 year technical degree in Engineering or other related field (preferred).
  • Experience: 5-7 years of experience in tooling, Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing, ceramic/soluble tooling, shrink factor, and fixture design.
  • Proven success in process improvements using mathematical and statistical problem-solving techniques to identify process variations in manufacturing with many independent variables.
  • Certifications/Licenses: CQE, AS9100 Internal Auditor Certification preferred.
  • Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Additional skills required: Intermediate-Advanced Excel, MS Office, PowerPoint, Solid Works (CAD), Minitab or similar-SPC knowledge able to read and understand blue prints, internal audits, corrective actions, quality tools and Metric system.
