Consolidated Precision Products (CPP) has an immediate need for a Process Engineer for Wollaston Alloys Inc. in Braintree, MA, to join our team. Wollaston Alloys is a stainless steel and high alloy sand casting foundry that manufactures castings for the military and power generation industries.

We are currently seeking an experienced Casting Process Engineer to join our team!  This position is the lead for casting development and works cooperatively in a team environment to develop robust manufacturing processes to support the company’s growth in the industrial and defense casting markets. This position is involved in planning, gating development, establishing foundry parameters, and providing technical support to the Operations team throughout the manufacturing process in our dry sand foundry. The Process Engineer is also an integral part of continuous improvement teams with objectives of improving and/or repairing existing casting processes, and as part of a cost cutting initiatives.  Engineer will be required to identify problems, generate alternatives, and implement solutions to problems that affect yield, rework, and overall quality of the product using a standardized approach.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for the development of stainless steel and super alloy castings.  Includes pattern builds, gating and risering development using SolidWorks modeling software, Magmasoft simulation software and establishing foundry parameters.  Develop work instructions, maintain and teach “best practice” sand casting procedures and practices and customer interfacing.
  • Responsible for customer interfacing.  Must be able to interpret customer drawing and NDT specifications.
  • Lead and implement root cause and corrective action. 
  • Manage and coordinate technical input from the foundry, pattern shop and outside machine shops into the product development process.
  • Use problem solving tools and techniques to reduce and or eliminate related scrap issues.
  • Document work procedures and processes, develop and maintain procedure cards and internal job instructions.
  • Dimensional inspection of casting using CMM to ensure product meets customer drawing may be required at times
  • Identify, evaluate and implement new process technologies that will extend manufacturing and product capabilities.
  • Work closely with other departments to ensure organization objectives are achieved.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS in Engineering, Material Science or Metallurgy  
  • 5+ years of sand casting experience; Metallurgist or Process Engineer in sand casting industry preferred.
  • Process Development/Gating
  • Good working knowledge of SolidWorks, CAD, Blueprint reading
  • Magmasoft Solidification software or similar software is a plus
  • Worked with different CMM technologies laser measurement, CMM, Blue light etc
  • Strong knowledge of the dimensional aspects of the casting environment. 
  • Strong communication skills, PC skills and program management skills.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing Principles.
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and documentation skills.
  • Proven success in process improvements
