Consolidated Precision Products (CPP) has an immediate need for a 1st Shift Foundry Operator to join our team.  This position reports to the Supervisor and assists operators by performing tasks necessary in the preparation of molds.

Job Summary:
Furnace operators have a broad range of responsibilities, which begins with the interacting of manufacturing personnel, engineering, and the team leaders.  The main objective of this task is to operate and maintain one of several different types of furnaces, in which will manufacturer of high integrity investment castings with the expectation of a high quality standard for the Aerospace Industry and the Industrial Gas Turbine Industry. The operator will work with superalloy castings of intricate design weighing as little as one ounce and as heavy as 250 pounds.  

Essential Job Functions/Duties:
  • Load Preheat Ovens: the main objective of this task is to load molds into the pre-heat ovens for cast.  There are two ways to approach this task (1) loading the pre-heat by hooking with a rod with assistance and (2) loading the molds by towmotor.
     
  • Furnace Preparation: the objective of this task is the preparation of furnaces for casting, which will include the operations of ramming and sintering of the furnace crucible.
  • Cast test bars to sample metal for analysis.
  • Pour and regulate the flow of molten metal into molds and forms to produce ingots or other castings, using ladles or hand-controlled mechanisms.
  • Read temperature gauges and observe color changes; then adjust furnace flames, torches, or electrical heating units as necessary to melt metal to specifications.
  • Position equipment such as ladles, grinding wheels, pouring nozzles, or crucibles, or signal other workers to position equipment.
  • Skim slag or remove excess metal from ingots or equipment, using hand tools, strainers, rakes, or burners; collect scrap for recycling.
  • Add hot top to molds to compensate for shrinkage.
  • Pull levers to lift ladle stoppers and to allow molten steel to flow into ingot molds to specified heights.
  • Load specified amounts of metal and flux into furnaces or clay crucibles.
  • Weigh or measure specified amounts of ingredients or materials for processing, using devices such as scales and calipers.
  • Press and adjust controls in order to activate, set, and regulate equipment according to specifications.
  • Monitor equipment operation, gauges, and panel lights in order to detect deviations from standards.
  • Read and interpret work orders and instructions in order to determine work assignments, process specifications, and production schedules.
  • Record gauge readings, test results, and shift production in log books.
  • Confer with Team Leaders, Managers, equipment operators and Maintenance in order to report equipment malfunctions or to resolve production problems.
  • Examine or test samples of processed substances, or collect samples for laboratory testing, in order to ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Clean, lubricate, and adjust equipment, using scrapers, solvents, air hoses, oil, and hand tools.
  • Transport materials and products to and from work areas, manually or using carts, hand trucks, hoists or manipulators.
  • Stop equipment and clear blockages or jams, using fingers, wire, or hand tools.
  • Drain, transfer, or remove molten metal from furnaces, and place it into molds, using hoists, pumps, or ladles.
  • Record production data, and maintain production logs.
  • Operate controls to move or discharge metal work pieces from furnaces.
  • Weigh materials to be charged into furnaces, using scales.
  • Regulate supplies of fuel and air, or control flow of electric current and water coolant to heat furnaces and adjust temperatures.
  • Inspect furnaces and equipment to locate defects and wear.
  • Observe air and temperature gauges or metal color and fluidity, and turn fuel valves or adjust controls to maintain required temperatures.
  • Remove impurities from the surface of molten metal, using strainers.
Requirements:
  • Must prioritize proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at ALL times.
  • Legible handwriting
  • Although candidate will primarily be an air melt operator, he/she must be willing to learn how to operate a vacuum furnace.
  • Lift 50 pounds consistently throughout the day
  • Withstand up to 120 degree heat
  • Work with other departments/cross train during down time
  • Flexible and self-motivated
  • Help out in other areas of the foundry and departments

Qualifications:
  • Education:   High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Experience:   Manufacturing experience preferred
  • Certifications/Licenses:   Tow motor (training provided)
  • Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  English speaking preferred
