Consolidated Precision Products (CPP) has an immediate need for a Lab Technician for Wollaston Alloys Inc. in Braintree, MA, to join our team. Wollaston Alloys is a stainless steel and high alloy sand casting foundry that manufactures castings for the military and power generation industries.

We are currently seeking a Lab Technician to join our team!  This position is responsible for performing all duties related to the foundry laboratory to ensure required standard and specifications are meet; chemical analysis of metals being poured using a Thermo Scientific optical emission spectrometer, Leco Carbon/Sulfur & Oxigen/Nitro analyzer; sand testing; and mechanical tests like hardness, tensile etc.

  • Prepare sample specimens for analysis.
  • Read and interpret customer specifications, industry standards, quality control documents and work instructions.
  • Support Melt Department production schedule.
  • Generate travelers for new master heats of alloy and expedite the workflow of test specimens to ensure best possible turnaround time.
  • Check analysis for compliance to specification.
  • Input chemistry and related info into database/business system.
  • Prepare metallurgical samples.
  • Perform calibration/verification of analyzing equipment.
  • Use the Leco equipment, perform minor maintenance keeping instruments on a functional basis.
  • Clean and maintain the testing equipment used in the lab.
  • Report equipment maintenance needs to supervisor.
  • Observe all company rules and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as required or as directed.
  • Education: A minimum of a high school diploma. Vocational/technical schooling preferred.
  • Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures. Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Experience applying mathematical concepts required. Good interpersonal skills. Good verbal communication skills.
