Job Summary:
The primary function of this position is to hold technical responsibility for the metallurgical requirements for Casting, Heat treating, Welding and Mastermelt departments, as well as HIP and material testing of metals.  This includes the responsibility to establish, maintain and implement process controls surrounding metal processing to improve overall metal quality and cost within customer prescribed material requirements.  Additionally, this position develops and manages a team of metallurgical and chemical laboratory technicians servicing Production to ensure conforming product and manufacturing processes for Titanium Castings.    

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Establishes and monitors chemical and physical properties of all metals poured to meet customer specifications and governing standards 

  • Establishing material (raw or produced) purchasing and certification requirements and monitoring supplied certifications for conformance 

  • Establishes and audits processes such as heat treat cycles to produce castings with necessary properties  

  • Assess chemical, metallurgical, and mechanical test results to ensure all requirements are met 

  • Manage personnel, assign work, conduct performance reviews and train 

  • Develop and monitor department quality metrics.   

  • Comply with all federal and customer regulatory requirements  

  • Write procedures to meet ASTM, NADCAP and customer requirements  

  • Focal for all Welding, Heat Treat and Laboratory customer and NADCAP audits  

  • Conduct or supervise tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality. 


  • Responsible for completion of Accident Investigation forms for any incidents in department. 
  • Responsible for implementation of safety countermeasures and doing root cause analysis to determine appropriate safety changes that are needed to improve plant safety. 

  • Responsible to adhere to all site safety policies and procedures 



  • Responsible to ensure standardized work is in place for all processes and adherence to quality process.   
  • Responsible for building and improving processes that make a quality product 

  • Responsible for prevention of defects and scraps. 

  • Lead, support and plan improvement using Systematic Problem Solving (Lean, Six-Sigma). 

  • Provide and oversee training and cross training plans. 

  • Instructs, trains and delegates authority to foremen, engineers, or technicians in the areas of foundry metals processing testing, certification review.  

  • Provide metrics and testing status to other departments (Shipping, Planning, Operations)  

  • Manage staffing levels and requirements. 


  • Propose equipment needs for capital project implementations and may also participate in project implementation.  

  • Ensure problems are correctly identified and cost effective solutions are implemented. 

  • Initiate improvements to save material, labor and energy costs. 


  • Ensure compliance with HR Policies and practices 

  • Resolve employee performance issues. 

  • Responsible for discipline issues including attendance, employee relations, and violations of company policies. 

  • Responsible for accurate employee time keeping utilizing E-time, tracking of attendance points and vacations. 

  • Develop employees for future positions. 

  • Responsible for performance reviews of direct reports. 

Minimum Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
  • Education: BS in Metallurgy/Materials Engineering or Chemistry, other engineering disciplines will be considered based on experience and education. 

  • Experience: Minimum 4 years of experience in a metals foundry and/or lab environment 

  • Certifications/Licenses: None 

  • Other Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  Experience with Titanium alloys preferred (Ti 6-4, 6-2-4-2, 15-3-3-3, 35V-15Cr) 

Working Conditions:
  • Working Environment:   Office Environment and lab 

  • Physical Demands:    Sitting/Standing for extended periods of time, able to lift up to 20lbs, extended periods of time using a computer screen. 

  • Travel Requirements: 5-10% 

  • Required PPE:     Check for required PPE in areas you may be working in  

  • Safety Glasses:    Needed in all areas of the plant. 

  • Steel toe shoes:  Needed in all areas of the plant.
