Consolidated Precision Products (CPP) has an immediate need for a Spectrometer Operator A employee for Wollaston Alloys Inc. in Braintree, MA, to join our team. Wollaston Alloys is a stainless steel and high alloy sand casting foundry that manufactures castings for the military and power generation industries.

Purpose of Position:
Perform all duties related to the spectrographic analysis of metals being poured using a Thermo Scientific optical emission spectrometer, Leco Carbon/Sulfur & Oxygen/Nitrogen analyzer to ensure required standard and specifications are meet.
Help quality department in mechanical testing, sand testing as and when required. Perform the duty of analyzing various specimens following prescribed procedures, prepare and record data for various reports under the general supervision of the Quality Control Manager

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare sample specimens for analysis.  The capability of developing the necessary curves to analyze all elements for all alloys made at Wollaston Alloys.  Correcting for all instrument errors and interelement effect.  Correlating all information from these curves to program the computer of the spectrometer
  • The ability to know if both Spectrometers are reloading the correct analysis.  The capability to perform around both Spectrometers to analyze samples when instruments are not working at 100% efficiency
  • Perform minor maintenance on the spectrometer.  Inform the factory engineer if the instrument is in a non-operable status
  • Use the Leco equipment, performing minor maintenance keeping instruments on a functional basis
  • Meet with the Quality Control Manager recommending day to day programs to control the workload of the Spectro Lab.
  • Check heat analyses to assure they meet required specifications.
  • Train personnel to operate Spectro Lab equipment.
  • Analyze unknown samples or mixed metal for remelt purpose.
  • Prepare and update data to proper records/graphs.
  • Support quality supervisor in making reports.
  • Support quality supervisor in documenting incoming materials for repair.
  • Procure required materials/supplies through the Department Supervisor to maintain the Spectro Lab.
  • Report needs of equipment maintenance to Supervisor.
  • Maintain tools and equipment.  Maintain work area in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
  • Observe all company rules and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as required or as directed.

Qualifications for the position include:
  • Education: Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Science or directly related field
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical data and customer specifications.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations, follow instructions, and use various measuring devices.
  • Able to read/write/speak English.
