JOB SUMMARY
Poly6 is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to lead the development, industrialization, and scale-up of front-end manufacturing processes — including printing, die cleaning, drying, post-cure, and injection. This role owns the earliest and most sensitive steps of production, establishing the material, dimensional, and process stability that drives downstream yield.
Because front-end manufacturing is the bridge between R&D and high-volume production, this position carries a strong emphasis on process development, experimentation, and early-stage industrialization. The engineer will work closely with R&D, production, quality, tooling, and automation teams to translate new technologies into reliable, scalable operations.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own daily engineering support for printing, die cleaning, drying/post-cure, and injection operations.
- Establish and maintain process windows, control limits, and defect-prevention standards.
- Lead troubleshooting for upstream issues (print anomalies, fill issues, drying/cure variation, die-cleaning defects).
- Translate R&D formulations and settings into stable production processes.
- Lead DOEs for print parameters, cure profiles, injection settings, and drying cycles.
- Validate new materials, tooling, and equipment for readiness and repeatability.
- Improve utilization of printers, dryers, post-cure ovens, and injection presses.
- Develop takt-based flow, staffing models, and equipment loading plans.
- Reduce early-stage variation to protect downstream yield.
- Support specification, installation, and qualification of new printers, injection presses, ovens, and cleaning tools.
- Partner with maintenance and controls teams to improve reliability and safety.
- Build data pipelines for print parameters, injection profiles, and cure cycles.
- Apply SPC, Cpk, and statistical analysis to identify drift and drive corrective action.
- Create dashboards and reporting standards for front-end process health.
- Author process documentation: setup sheets, cure recipes, PFMEAs, and control plans.
- Train operators and technicians on updated processes and best practices.
- Work with R&D on material adjustments, printability, green strength, and cure kinetics.
- Align with backend engineering and quality to ensure upstream decisions support firing and final inspection performance.
- Ensure all front-end processes meet Poly6 safety and quality standards.
- Conduct risk assessments for new materials and equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience: 5+ years’ experience in injection molding, additive manufacturing, drying/cure operations, ceramics, or advanced materials.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- Other Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated success industrializing processes from pilot to production scale.
- Strong experience with troubleshooting, DOE, root cause analysis, SPC/Cpk.
- Experience with new equipment introductions and tooling development.
- Strong understanding of printing technologies, injection molding, curing/drying, and green-body mechanics.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, SQL, Python, or equivalent).
- Working knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma.
- Strong communication and cross-functional alignment skills.
- Ability to manage multiple development and production priorities.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to occasionally lift 30 pounds independently.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Working Environment: Manufacturing shop floor/office
- Travel Requirements: Up to 20% travel to vendors, suppliers, and partner sites
- Required PPE: Check for required PPE in areas you may be working in
- Safety Toed Shoes/Boots: Required
