Director of Human Resources - Cavallo Point Lodge

We are currently seeking a Director of Human Resources who is a member of the Leadership Team and provides strategic leadership and direction in all aspects of the human resources function, works diligently to create a safe and productive work environment, develops effective teams, and contributes to a winning culture that achieves the ultimate in guest experiences at this acclaimed five star property.  The incumbent oversees the administration and management of the human resources function to include talent acquisition and management, training and development, compensation and benefit administration, payroll administration, employee relations, recognition programs, and compliance with labor laws and other statutory requirements.

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field, and two or more years of experience in a human resources management capacity, preferably in the hospitality industry. SPHR/PHR certification or equivalent is preferred.  The candidate must possess a high level of interpersonal competence, excellent listening skills, thorough knowledge of human resources practices and procedures as well as considerable knowledge of state and federal labor laws and regulations; computer literacy and competency in the use of software applications within the Microsoft Office Suite; and excellent presentation skills sufficient to carry out training programs. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Conduct compensation and salary surveys within like labor markets to determine competitive salaries and benefits.  Recommends compensation increases as needed.
  2. Maintain and analyze turnover statistics.
  3. Administer performance appraisal process, revising as needed, and ensuring timely completion by managers.
  4. Administer Workers’ Compensation insurance claims, working closely with carrier to reduce costs.  Sits on the Safety Committee and acts as an advocate for a safe workplace.  Investigates injuries and recommends improvements.  Ensures that safety training occurs during new hire orientation.
  5. Ensure that policies, posters, notices and staff information comply with federal and state laws consulting with legal counsel where necessary. 
  6. Represents lodge at personnel related hearings and investigations.
  7. Ensure proper governmental reporting, including EEO Log, EDD New Hire Reports, EEO-1 Annual Reports, I-9 forms, etc.
  8. Ensure legal compliance and anti-discrimination with regard to all employee related issues.
  9. Compose, maintains and revises the Employee Handbook, staff memos, policies and procedures.
  10. Administer the employee health and benefit programs, including medical, dental, life, long term disability, vision insurance and 401(k) billing, determining eligibility, enrolling and terminating members and ensuring the rules of the plans are adhered to.
  11. Supervise the Human Resources and Payroll Coordinator.
  12. Ensure legality of wage and hours payroll issues.
  13. Maintain all personnel files/records
  14. Prepare annual budget and adheres to financial constraints.
  15. Participate as an active member of the Leadership Team.
  16. Recruit, interview and select employment candidates, ensuring references are handled.
  17. Plan and conduct New Employee Orientation, Educational meetings and daily one-on-one training and coaching for managers.
  18. Plan and coordinate special events for staff members including the holiday party, managers’ party, and employee appreciation events.
  19. Work closely with managers regarding staff relations issues, solves staff grievances and problems, act as a representative to management for employees and to employees for management.  Represents employees in all terminations.
  20. Generate and maintains staff informational material including staff bulletin board, birthday/anniversary lists, job postings, meetings, memos and collateral material for insurance, 401(k) plan and other staff benefits.
  21. Maintain and respond to employee suggestion box.
  22. Administer Employee of the Month awards and Employee of the Year award.
  23. Coordinate employee room reservations and dining comp/discount program.

ESSENTIAL WORK SKILLS:
  1. Working knowledge of computers in a windows environment.
  2. Ability to access and input data into computer. 
  3. Ability to maintain confidential information.
  4. Self starter.
  5. Strong organizational skills.
  6. Ability to remain calm under pressure, and resolve problems using good judgement.
  7. Ability to handle several projects simultaneously
  8. Ability to maintain detailed and accurate work.
  9. Ability to manage financial issues including budget, medical billing, and compensation systems.
  10. Working knowledge of computer wordprocessing and spreadsheets softwares.
  11. Ability to supervise others.
  12. Ability to sit for long periods of time in a confined work area.
  13. Ability to maneuver using manual dexterity in use of phones, computers, telephones, reference books, manuals, paper goods, typing and writing tools.
  14. Ability to work without direct supervision.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field.
  2. 2+ years experience in a Human Resources management capacity.
  3. PHR certified preferred
  4. Working knowledge of State and Federal labor laws and requirements.
  5. Ability to communicate with proper grammar, in English, to employment applicants, management, and employees, to their understanding.
  6. Prior experience with workers’ compensation and health care insurance.
  7. Prior hospitality experience.
  8. Bilingual, preferably in Spanish.
