RESPONSIBILITIES – Music Director

• Plans and executes sacred music for all Sunday Masses, Solemnity liturgies & weekday morning Masses with students on class days.
• Participates in the wider mission of the parish by helping to form parishioners to better understand and pray the Sacred Liturgy and by being a strong pastoral presence.
• Provides organ accompaniment for all sung Masses.
• Rehearses and conducts the adult choir, which sings at one Sunday Mass.
• Rehearses with cantors in advance of their scheduled Masses, or if necessary personally takes on the role of cantor at Mass.
• Schedules substitute organists when away.
• Works within the budget provided, checking monthly with the Business Manager regarding the sacred music budget. Follows ordering and money handling protocols to ensure appropriate use of funds.
• Maintains a close working relationship with the Pastor.
• Aids in training of altar servers, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, and lectors.

RESPONSIBILITIES – Music Teacher (3 days/week)
• The teacher must possess the ability to teach students grades K-8 following the State of Indiana Academic Standards for Music.
• The teacher will incorporate Sacred Music, or chant, into the curriculum.
• The teacher must possess the ability to provide both whole group and small group instruction.
• The teacher must have good classroom and behavioral management skills.
• The teacher must agree to support the Diocesan Curriculum process and assist in building a pacing guide for music teachers to follow.
• The teacher must be willing to attend staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
• The teacher must apply for an emergency teaching permit, if not previously licensed to teach Music for students K-8.
• The teacher must dress in appropriate professional teaching attire.
• The teacher must be able to clearly and respectfully communicate with all adults and students in the school building.
• The teacher must be able to collaborate with both the general education classroom teacher as well the other “Specials” teachers.
• The teacher must communicate with parents in regards to diocesan-wide or school events that involve the students traveling to a location or being on a study trip.
• The teacher must be willing to coordinate with the Principal and Pastor in regards to an Advent Program and a Spring Program, ensuring appropriate songs for the students.
• The teacher will prepare students to sing at the Pueri Cantores program each year, in accord with preset expectations from the diocesan level.

RESPONSIBILITIES – Pastoral Associate
• Is responsible for the organization and structuring of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA).
• Instructs the RCIA classes.
• Welcomes and prepares families who approach the parish for infant baptisms.
• Works in coordination with 2nd and 8th grade teachers for sacramental preparations of First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.
• Coordinates volunteers for Sunday Religious Education for students who attend public school.
• Writes a small, weekly bulletin column.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Proficiency in playing the organ and piano, as attested to by formal credentials and a personal performance audition.
• Working knowledge of other instruments, which might be used in the parish’s sacred music.
• Demonstrated skill as an effective choral conductor.
• Knowledge of the Church’s liturgical and musical tradition and current legislation.
• Interest/ability in Gregorian Chant (Latin and/or English).
• Ability to work independently to organize and arrange priorities.
• Ability to schedule and produce work in a timely manner.
• Ability to take initiative and be self-motivated.
• High level of discretion and integrity.
• Knowledge of the Catholic Faith and be a practicing/participating Catholic in good standing with the Church.
• Responsibility for continued personal, spiritual and professional growth.
• Ability to work cooperatively and communicate effectively in a diverse community environment.
• Excellent written and oral skills.
• Ability to work closely with the Pastor and Principal.
