Position Details:
We are seeking a prep cook to prepare and serve healthy and nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snack to children in our child care center.

The cook is responsible for maintaining high standards of food production and portion control using standard recipes and also for appropriate quantities of food needed to meet menu requirements.

In addition, the cook will possess (or will obtain within 90-days) the Rhode Island Food Safety Manager Certification (ServSafe) and follow guidelines set forth by the Child and Adult Care Food Program, using the provided Dr. Day Care breakfast, lunch, and snack menus.

The ideal candidate will be friendly, energetic, and have experience preparing meals. Other qualifications include:
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation, food safety, and nutrition
  • Food certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Can work independently
  • Communicates well in a professional manner
  • Is reliable and dependable
This position also performs a variety of maintenance tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and maintaining refrigerators, freezers and storage space in a neat and clean order.
Our ideal candidate will have some experience working with children and/or in food service.

The Food Service Worker will be required to perform the following duties including, but not limited to,:
  • Order, inventory food stock and supplies for meals
  • Prepare meals and snacks on a daily basis
  • Comply with safe food handling guidelines
  • Assist in the creation of a safe, healthy, structured and nurturing environment
  • Communicate positively with parents
  • Attend meetings and trainings
  • Assist with the accreditation process as well as other quality initiatives
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary

Educational Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • ServSafe Food Safety Certification (licensed)
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred

Experience Requirements:
  • Experience working with children in a child care/early learning center preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Positive team player
  • Ability to attend meetings/trainings after normal business hours

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to be engaged in physical exercise with children such as walking, running, crawling, bending, twisting, etc. 
  • Must have visual and hearing acuity
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to determine portion control following standard measurements.

Other Qualifications:
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently
  • Must pass national criminal background/fingerprints check
  • Must pass Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) Clearance Request (CPS)
  • Shifts available Monday - Friday, flexible between the hours of 6:30am - 6:00pm
