Responsibilities
The PreK Teacher Assistant will be required to perform the following duties including, but not limited to:
  • Assist in the creation of a safe, healthy, structured and nurturing environment
  • Help plan and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum and assessment of children
  • Help to supervise and interact with children to facilitate their play and learning
  • Communicate positively with parents
  • Support the implementation of the Therapeutic Child Care Services (TCCS) program
  • Help prepare activities
  • Serve meals to the children
  • Help to keep the classroom clean, organized and maintained
  • Attend meetings and trainings
  • Complete a minimum of 20 hours of professional development related to the Workforce Knowledge and Competencies related to position on an annual basis
  • Assist with the accreditation process as well as other quality initiatives
  • Other duties may be assigned as necessary

Educational Requirements
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent
  • Option 1: *Successful completion of a Teacher Assistant Training Program approved by the RI Department of Elementary and Secondary Education
  • Option 2: *Minimum of 12 credit hours of college coursework relevant to the early childhood education program
  • Option 3: *Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential PLUS nine (9) credit hours of college coursework relevant to the early childhood education program setting
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred
*Have documentation of one of these options or an individual professional development plan not to exceed two (2) years from the date of employment. 


Experience Requirements
  • RI Early Learning and Development Standard (RIELDS) certificate relevant to position or an individual professional development plan for achieving this requirement within two (2) years of employment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Positive team player

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to be engaged in physical exercise with children such as walking, running, crawling, bending, twisting, etc. 
  • Must have visual and hearing acuity.
  • Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.


Other Qualifications
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English fluently
  • Must pass national criminal background/fingerprints check
  • Must pass Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) Clearance Request (CPS)
  • Apart from religious observations, must have full availability during operating hours, Monday – Friday, according to the needs of the business
