Elementary School Principal, PreK - 8

Status:  Full-Time Reports to Pastor and Superintendent of Catholic Schools

St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Fort Wayne, Indiana seeks a full-time elementary school principal beginning in the 2024-25 school year.

St. Joseph’s Principal serves as the spiritual and educational leader and is responsible for exercising judgment in implementing a broad array of programs and functions.  These responsibilities encompass spiritual development, curriculum, co-curricular activities, discipline, personnel practices, school facilities, marketing, financial stewardship, and community relations.

We are seeking a principal candidate who possesses the following attributes:

  • A practicing Catholic with knowledge and belief in the mission of the school and Church; and in good standing with the Church;

  • Master of Education Degree or equivalent certification in administration;

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and abilities to communicate with inspiration and clarity;

  • At least five years of teaching/administrative experience is a plus, but not required;

  • Being bilingual (English and Spanish) is a plus, but not required; and

  • A visionary with energy and commitment to creating a strong parish school rooted in our Catholic tradition.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing the school’s day-to-day operations, including all aspects of curriculum, instruction, and assessment;
  • Being a strong spiritual leader for the entire school community;

  • Providing ongoing support to students and staff;

  • Ensuring healthy, diverse, Christ-centered, engaging co-curricular programs and activities;

  • Creating faculty and support staff classroom and duty schedules;

  • Conducting teacher observations and performance evaluations, as well as the evaluation, training, development, and mentoring of faculty and staff;

  • Coordinating professional development opportunities fostering a culture of faculty growth;

  • Hiring, supervising, evaluating, and dismissing of faculty and staff in consultation with the pastor;

  • Building and maintaining positive, transparent relationships with families;

  • Supporting faculty and staff to optimize each student’s learning experience;

  • Facilitating and supporting family programming, including parent meetings, parent-teacher conferences, Back to School nights, holiday celebrations, and open house events;
  • Administrative duties for transportation system;
  • Actively recruiting and working on admission efforts;

  • Collaborating with the pastor ensuring spiritual centering and messaging of school programs

 

Supervises:

  • Faculty and staff;
  • Administrative assistants; and

  • Other administrative personnel as identified.
