Job description

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for designing all custom electronic parts in detail, producing drawings and data that meet industry standards, to be used by contract electronic manufacturers, wire and cable vendors, and in-house production personnel.
  • Responsible for following DFx (Design for manufacturing, test, and reliability) practices and IPC industry standards in all electronic product design.
  • Responsible as the main interface between Schonstedt and its suppliers of electronic and interconnect components and assemblies regarding technical issues.
  • Responsible for project status reporting to managers, other members of the engineering team, and possibly customers or dealers on electronic issues pertaining to the design, and on the entire project when serving in a project management role.
  • Responsible for developing test, tuning, and alignment fixtures and procedures for production.
  • Responsible for supporting manufacturing and quality control in those cases related to electronic design issues, including both design and manufacturing issues.
  • Responsible for conducting, directly or with the help of qualified technical testing facilities, all product safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and other product compliance testing for Schonstedt products, as required by market demands and compliance regulations.
  • Responsible for providing expert-level technical support for Schonstedt products to customers, sales, and others, and serving as the final level of escalation for technical support communications in Schonstedt.
  • Familiar with all Schonstedt EHS rules in the workplace, and ensuring all design work is compliant with RoHS2, REACH, and other environmental requirements in the markets where Schonstedt products are sold.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Experience with a recent version of PADS PC layout and related schematic capture tools. Significant experience with other tools is acceptable, but the engineer will be expected to quickly learn Schonstedt’s EDA tools. Schematic Capture experience is required, printed circuit layout experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following areas is required: analog electronics, battery powered devices, mixed-signal designs, or embedded systems design.
  • Knowledge of magnetic sensing, embedded software development including DSP, RF communication, GPS, Bluetooth, USB, and IoT is preferred.
  • Familiarity with electronic product manufacturing and test processes.
  • Familiarity with compliance regulations and testing procedures, such as FCC, Industry Canada, and the CE Mark.
  • Demonstrated teamwork ability and persistence when dealing with customers, peers, coworkers, and company departments.
  • Demonstrates ability to negotiate and arrive at creative win/win solutions.
  • Ability to be a self-starter with little supervision.
 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in design and development of portable or hand held electronic instruments. Experience in magnetic sensing and receiver design strongly preferred.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills.
