Human Resource and Benefit Specialist

Job Summary

A Human Resources and Benefit Specialist is responsible to various tasks within the Corporate Staff Team. The HR and Benefit Specialist focuses on a specific task such as HR compliance and reporting, benefit administration, hiring, safety and health, and training.

Responsibilities of a Human Resource and Benefit Specialist:
  • Administering  benefit plans
  • Administering health and safety plans
  • Assuring compliance with labor laws
  • Compiling data used for employee annual reviews, employee terminations, and audits from government agencies
  • Facilitating hiring of new employees
  • Processing exit interviews and associated paperwork
  • Maintain and update employee handbooks
  • Maintain and update employee access portals and HR information
  • Ensures HR communications are distributed and read by all employees
Skills of a Human Resource and Benefit Specialist:
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of human resource strategies and practices, safety and health, hiring and employee relations; able to apply these strategies and practices in compliance with employment regulations.
  • Ability to create a culture of diversity, inclusivity, collaboration, consensus management, and teamwork.
Qualifications of a Human Resource and Benefit Specialist:
  • A bachelor's degree in human resources preferred or relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite
  • Legal experience preferred but not required
  • Coursework in information technology and conflict management preferred but not required
  • Professional associations such as The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI) preferred but not required
  • Must be willing to wear a face covering during the COVID-19 pandemic.
