Compensation: $78,000-82,000 per year, DOE, plus excellent benefits

Position Summary:
The Development Manager executes and manages a range of development and communications-related projects and responsibilities, serving as an ambassador for Family Connections Centers and the community. In alignment with the department’s goals and strategies, the position develops materials, grants, reports, and approaches that increase the visibility, participation, and funding of our programs.

The Development Manager will use program data, creative storytelling, attractive design, and various communications platforms and strategies to engage our diverse audience, amplify FCC’s mission, and connect with participants, staff, funders, media, and partners in the education and family support fields.  Results will highlight FCC’s impact and expand our network of donors, volunteers, and community partners.

This role requires excellent writing and editing skills; experience with digital communications/media; strong project management to meet multiple activity deadlines; knowledge of fundraising; and a warm, proactive, and personable demeanor. Our ideal candidate is passionate about FCC’s community-based work and able to celebrate the organization through effective digital and in-person communications.  The ideal candidate understands fundraising and is highly proficient in communications.

The position requires the ability to plan, carry out, manage, and evaluate the results of multiple projects.

Primary Responsibilities:
Grants, Fundraising, and Partnerships – 50%
  • Working with the Development Team and Board Members, design and implement strategy, content, and outreach for semi-annual fundraising campaigns
  • Draft and support the submission of effective and prompt grant proposals and reports
  • Serve as Board of Directors liaison, engaging with members on organization updates, opportunities to participate in events/activities, and fund development
  • Support the acknowledgment and tracking of donations and in-kind gifts in Salesforce database
  • Support the planning and outreach for FCC’s large-scale community and fundraising events, working closely with Development Team, volunteers, Board members, and partners
  • Research and cultivate corporate sponsors/partners, foundation funders, and individual donors

Communications and Program Outreach – 50%
  • Work with program staff to collect information and publish flyers, marketing materials, and outreach collateral with clear and accurate information; distribute materials to program participants, funders, volunteers, staff, and stakeholders, including translations in Chinese, Spanish, and Vietnamese as needed
  • Draft and distribute FCC’s e-newsletters, social media posts, press releases, marketing materials, and internal communications; develop strategies to engage our audience and grow our reach and followers on all platforms
  • Coordinate and staff occasional outreach, fundraising, and community events, with ability to communicate organizational goals to the public; cultivate relationships with families, volunteers, and local partners
  • Visit programs to collect photos, videos, stories, and testimonials from programs and participants; maintain photo folders, and keep website/digital platforms updated with new materials
  • Adhere to and update the FCC Style Guide and support staff communications, ensuring that all materials have high-quality, error-free copy and design

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or substantial experience in place of degree
  • 4+ years’ minimum experience in fundraising/development that incorporated digital/written communications, including e-newsletters, grant applications, donor communications, fundraising campaigns, and press releases
  • Excellent writing and composition skills, excellent grammar and editing abilities, strong attention to detail, and ability to convey complex messages and impact through strong, persuasive communications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Design Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and/or Illustrator)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work collaboratively with others in a team environment and with partners, participants, and funders
  • Critical and strategic thinking, flexibility, resourcefulness, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of detail, while staying on track for individual project requirements and deadlines
  • Experience assessing impact/results of approaches
  • Ability to acquire advanced proficiency in platforms or software related to department functions

Strongly Preferred:
  • Prior experience in a manager-level role
  • Experience with Constant Contact, Salesforce, WordPress, and producing graphics/video
  • Experience in producing multicultural and multilingual communications and events
  • Familiarity with the field of ECE and Family Support, and San Francisco

  •  Attend and participate in staff meetings, in-services, professional developments, meetings with Family Connections’ HR consultant, and relevant meetings, trainings, and workshops as needed
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with local schools, libraries, contractors, and community partners
  • Always maintains a clean and organized working environment at all times and in all areas
  • Keen sense for safety, security, and ergonomics
  • Perform other duties as needed or requested by the supervisor
  • Stay updated on CPR/First Aid, Mandated Reporter, Pesticide training, Workplace Harassment, and required vaccinations (COVID-19, TB, TDaP, MMR, and Flu)
  • LivesScan background clearance and physical health/TB clearance are required to be maintained throughout employment 

Work Environment:
This job operates in a hybrid work environment with mandatory on-site hours at FCC’s centers in Portola and Excelsior. Some remote work is possible. This job also operates in a professional office environment with Pre-K and Afterschool Programs on site. Work scheduled weekdays, Monday-Friday, with occasional evening/weekend work to support community events. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, fax machines, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, walk, stand, bend, kneel, and crouch. The employee must lift and/or move items over 25 pounds and on occasion may require lifting/carrying a child or object up to 50 pounds. This job requires extended periods of time at a computer. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
