The Corporate Finance Department is a 26-person team under the leadership of the Senior Director, Finance; spanning multiple disciplines in the running of various facets of the finance operations of GWL Realty Advisors Inc. (GWLRA). Included in this department are Corporate Financial Reporting, Banking and Treasury, National Accounts Payable, Transaction Services Processing and Office Administration.  All the teams support our 9 regional offices across the country, US owned subsidiaries of GWLRA, and the GWLRA Executive team.  We also provide reporting to many external stakeholders along with internal stakeholders Canada Life. GWLRA has grown significantly in the past several years, including via expansion into the US. 
 
THE POSITION
This position is in the GWLRA Winnipeg Office.  We are looking for a strong candidate to join the organization and support our GWLRA Corporate Finance team. Reporting to the Manager, Finance, this role will play a key role providing accounting, reporting and administrative support to the corporate finance area, and performing a variety of responsibilities which include the following:
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Corporate Finance and Accounting Responsibilities
    • Preparing, tracking and analysis of revenue and expenses transactions and accruals
    • Process journal entries for invoice allocations and monthly accruals
    • Assisting in the preparation for financial reports supporting GWLRA Financial Statements
    • Other accounting responsibilities as required
 
  • Invoice Procurement & Payment
    • Administration of vendor and supplier setups and maintenance
    • Coordinating payments of key disbursements for the organization including audit fees, taxes, legal, registration, corporate expense, and interest payments
    • Maintaining detailed payment trackers by vendor and expense type
 
  • Administration of External Audit Engagements
    • Direct involvement with our external accounting firms on the execution of external audits for property operating, corporate entity and trust audits on behalf of GWLRA and our external clients
    • Facilitating audit requests, maintaining tracking throughout engagements, working with GWLRA Regional Offices to prepare audit working paper documentation
    • Main contact between GWLRA Regional Offices and our external auditors on a variety of matters
    • Work directly with other finance teams (treasury, transactional services, and accounts payable) for obtaining information required for external audits
    • Responsible for audit fee accruals and reporting
 
  • Management Reporting
    • Assist in the preparation of various management and performance reporting:
      • Earnings reports including corporate fee revenues and operating expenses
      • Detailed GWLRA corporate fee reporting and analysis
      • Actual to budget reporting and analysis on corporate fees and operating expenses
      • Involvement with the annual budget preparation and projections of fees and expenses
      • Reporting on large projects and other initiatives for the organization as required


 
  • Preparation of written correspondence for a variety of transactions including:
    • Prepare internal documentation for new property acquisitions and entities
    • Funding of capital calls, share subscriptions, acquisitions deposits, credit facility, and cash management
    • Documenting wire requests and bank transfers
    • Review of audit Management Representation Letters
    • Assist with accounting position papers and process flow documents
    • Documentation of business transactions and journal entries of payments/funding
    • Preparing Banking and Treasury requests (reconciliations to bank statements, adjusting entries, etc.)
 
  • Other Responsibilities:
    • Assisting in various finance projects and initiatives supporting the teams


 KEY ATTRIBUTES AND STRENGTHS

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities
  • Ability to communicate procedural and technical information at a business user level
  • Proficient in Excel, Pivot Tables, PowerPoint, Word, and Access


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Business Administration Graduate (college program or university)
  • Currently enrolled in the CPA Program or focused education in Accounting
  • Experienced with Microsoft office products and enjoys working with Excel
  • Experience in real estate considered an asset
  • Experience in auditing or working with external audit firms considered an asset
