Join a leading Canadian real estate financial services company backed by The Canada Life Assurance Company. Advance your career by collaborating with all areas of the business through your leadership of regionally diverse finance teams, direct involvement in new business and other corporate initiatives, and interactions with asset management, leasing, property management and development teams.  This role is a key member of the Finance team reporting to the Vice-President, Finance and will drive a culture of continuous improvement - challenging the status quo, ensuring consistency, and driving efficiencies.

Role can be based in Winnipeg, Vancouver, Calgary or Toronto


RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee GWLRA regional finance and property accounting operations located in 7 offices across Canada.
  • Lead and develop senior regional finance talent - guiding, mentoring, recruiting, and hiring.
  • Provide strong financial support, in conjunction with the regional finance teams, to our asset management, leasing, property management and development teams.
  • Direct involvement in new business and other corporate initiatives, contributing to and leading the analysis, recommendations, and execution.
  • Lead regional oversight of all property accounting activities including lease set up, rent roll billing, rent collection, property disbursements, job costing, reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Lead the coordination of the annual property budget and forecast processes with the assistance of finance teams in Winnipeg and the regions
  • Oversee property, brokerage and operating costs audits with external auditors and regional finance teams and provide support and problem resolution where appropriate.
  • Lead development and maintenance of finance accounting policies, processes, and best practices. 
  • Drive uniformity and consistency in financial operations by ensuring adherence to best practices, policies and procedures. 
  • Collaborate with technology support team on finance system upgrades, reporting enhancements, security and operational effectiveness. 

To succeed in this role, you must have
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and customer service skills with the proven ability to work with all levels including Senior Management.
  • The ability to operate in a fast-paced environment with numerous competing priorities and reporting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated attention to details with a focus on organisation and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of IFRS as it relates to real estate and investments.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or equivalent.
  • Professional designation – CPA or CFA is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of related working experience showing progression.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Power BI. 
  • Experience with Yardi or similar ERP.
