Job Summary/Purpose:

The Gemini 3 Group is seeking a Doctrine Writer to support a valued U.S. Army customer. The Doctrine Writer will provide writing services for large scale combat operations publications.  
Essential Job Functions:
  • Prepare accurate, relevant, and well-coordinated doctrinal products. Write text, create graphics, and provide input to multimedia development.
  • Develop new or revision publications beginning with the program directive until the publication is published as official doctrine.
  • Develop change packets to update publications outside of the revision cycles.
  • Serve as the author and subject matter expert to assist multimedia developers with the necessary tasks (for example: the vision, storyboard) associated with producing multimedia when a doctrine writer’s publication or topics within a publication are selected for multimedia development.
  • Coordinate with a writing team to ensure accuracy and continuity across publications and to develop doctrine publications in accordance with leadership guidance and TRADOC-mandated template, format, and writing style.
  • Participate in various meetings that affect or have an impact on the outcome of his/her doctrinal publications.
  • Conduct all required research and analysis to ensure doctrine publications are comprehensive, relevant, current, and fully synchronized across all centers of excellence/proponents.
  • Maintain historical files, in accordance with Doctrine Division standard operation procedures, of the drafts of the publication; maintain an ongoing list of references; maintain copies of any copyrighted information and copyright releases.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 
  • Must be proficient in written and oral communication to articulate and explain recommended changes and complex ideas clearly.
  • Must be a critical thinker and problem solver.
  • Must be a subject matter expert capable of understanding the history, assessing the current state of knowledge, and seeking solutions for doctrinal issues.
  • Must be able to work independently and write multiple doctrinal publications simultaneously.
  • Must be detail oriented and highly organized, able to manage priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Must be an active researcher, capable of seeking out appropriate sources and comprehending the information. 
  • Expert knowledge of grammar, syntax, punctuation, word usage, formatting, terminology, and appropriate style usage.
  • Expert knowledge of the Army organizational structure, sustainment functions, Army command hierarchy, and the current Army operating concept in order to effectively develop doctrine publications.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint for content and graphics creation and development.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat (forms, signatures).

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience, within the last ten (10) years, serving in operational Army sustainment assignments (military or civilian).
  • Experience serving on staff assignments at the Brigade or higher echelon level.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience writing and editing military doctrine or specialized experience including: demonstrated experience in creating, editing, proofreading documents, including Government publications, and developing graphics using Microsoft Paint and PowerPoint.
