About the Position:
GPTech is seeking a Director of Business Development to lead the GPTech Business Development Team in its pursuit of new business opportunities, expand existing business areas, and develop strategic marketing initiatives to attract new clients and retain existing ones. The Director of Business Development is a key member of the leadership team and will report directly to the GPTech President. The successful candidate will execute the full life cycle of business development, including opportunity identification, capture, and bid management. The individual will have primary responsibility for delivery of compliant and highly competitive submissions to a variety of donors, with an emphasis on the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and other U.S. Government customers. The Director of Business Development will provide day-to-day guidance, leadership, and support to junior Business Development team members. The candidate will also provide guidance on capture/proposal related challenges, subject matter expertise on industry best practices, and immediate oversight of proposal deliverables produced. Other responsibilities include marketing GPTech’s core strengths to clients and partners, fostering and developing new partnerships, and directing current projects when necessary.

This position is based in GPTech’s Arlington, Virginia, headquarters office. We work under a hybrid model and require this position to be in the office two days per week.

Responsibilities:
  • Engage and maintain strong industry relationships within the client base, as well as overall marketplace, to foster strong strategic relationships.
  • Lead and manage all GPTech Business Development staff and activities, including, but not limited to, identifying viable opportunities, writing proposals and bids, managing partner relationships, conducting market research, and determining “go-no-go” opportunities.
  • Build and maintain a robust, qualified pipeline of opportunities exceeding $25M that align with GPTech’s strategic growth vision and include existing and adjacent markets/ customers.
  • Support the GPTech’s short- and long-term strategic plan to meet or exceed the current pipeline under direction from senior leadership including overall responsibility for the accuracy and achievement of GPTech Bookings Forecast and Plan tool.
  • Identify and assess opportunities and work with technical teams to develop and execute capture plans, proposal recruitments, and teaming strategies.
  • Attend trade shows to identify new business opportunities, strengthen current client relationships, and expand the company client base.
  • Lead GPTech teams on the proposal development phases of the opportunity life cycle and assist teams by providing customer insights, solutioning support, color review participation, and proposal writing.
  • Engage customers in identifying and shaping potential opportunities using knowledge of company capabilities, client relationships, and contract vehicles.
  • Conduct meetings with current and prospective clients; involves traveling, leading, coordinating, and/or participating in client visits and presentations.
  • Participate in the development of ongoing short- and long-term company strategic plans.
  • Create and maintain partnerships and shape new business opportunities that match company capabilities, experience, and strategic vision.
  • Adhere to established business development processes.
  • Participate in professional associations and conferences.
  • Participate in motivating and mentoring staff to proactively identify, shape, and capture opportunities.
  • Assist in solving problems and supporting the staff to make proactive decisions with their client communications.
  • Perform competitive market analysis. Monitor competitive activity and identify clients’ needs.
  • Support and monitor the Business Development Unit budget and individual bid and proposal budgets.

Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, e.g., business administration, finance, international relations, marketing, engineering, economics. Master’s degree of MBA, MPA, or similar preferred or additional experience with Bachelor’s degree in lieu of advanced degree
  • A minimum of 12 years of business development experience in Federal Government contracting and business development management; 3 years in a senior-level role (director or above)
  • Experience working with multilateral or bilateral donors, such as USAID, Millennium Challenge Corporation, U.S. Trade and Development Agency, World Bank, and Asian Development Bank
  • Previous experience leading business development efforts in sustainable energy, infrastructure, or development
  • Familiar with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
  • Extensive experience in developing qualification documents, requests for information, proposals, and client presentations
  • Ability to simultaneously manage and execute the full business development life cycle for multiple opportunities
  • Experience developing and effectively leading formal presentations to clients and potential teaming partners
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Secret clearance
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure on multiple concurrent projects
  • Proven ability to track opportunities, lead capture plans, and manage overall business development pipelines
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Knowledge of Customer Relationship Manager tools and Shipley methodology preferred
  • Fluency in English; fluency in other language a plus
