About the Position:
GPTech is seeking an Energy Engineer III - U.S. Citizenship Required - to engage in a range of consulting assignments with federal, state, local, and commercial clients for projects aiming to advance energy efficiency and clean energy development. The Energy Engineer will support and/or lead technical, analytic, and project delivery and management services for client projects focusing on renewable energy systems, grid modernization, distributed energy resources, and energy engineering and management support services. Assignments will include leading or contributing to efforts to capture new public or private-sector technical consulting projects and contributing to other sustainable energy projects as needed across the company. A key focus for this position is clean energy technical services. The successful candidate will provide design, modeling, and analysis services for solar photovoltaic, energy storage, microgrid, and/or other distributed energy systems for both domestic and international projects.

This is a hybrid position and requires two days per week in the office. One of those days will be at the client site in Washington, D.C., and the other will be in GPTech’s office in Arlington, VA.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead or support engineering design and technical analysis tasks for renewable energy systems.
  • Lead or support engineering design or technical analysis tasks for clean energy delivery systems, such as grid modernization, energy storage applications, distributed energy resource management, and microgrids.
  • Lead or support facility electric power and energy systems engineering design or technical analysis tasks.
  • Serve as project manager for assigned client projects.
  • Complete in-depth technical/economic and business case analyses of clean energy development projects for client investment decisions.
  • Develop the company’s Clean Energy Systems service capabilities.
  • Prepare reports and present briefings on assigned projects and corporate roles.
  • Engage in client meetings as required.
  • Keep abreast of industry developments in clean energy, grid modernization, energy-efficiency technologies, and associated performance, costs, and project development approaches.

Qualifications: 
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 8–10 years of demonstrated experience in energy and/or electrical power system design, analysis, or other technical support focusing on renewable energy systems, electric grid and utility operations, and distributed energy or standalone power resources
  • Understanding of technical characteristics and economic drivers of building energy technologies (e.g., HVAC, indoor lighting, outdoor lighting, distributed solar, energy storage)
  • Knowledge of overall energy-sector challenges, opportunities, and solutions, including utility tariffs, environmental issues, emissions mitigation or reduction, and infrastructure reliability and resiliency
  • Ability to travel up to 10 percent
  • Experience with business management, development, and capture processes
  • Proficiency in software tools for research, analysis, reporting, communications, and collaboration
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in U.S. English

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Energy Manager or Certified Renewable Energy Professional as recognized by the American Association of Energy Engineers
  • Field and desk experience with renewable energy installation, operations, maintenance, inspection, and diagnostics
  • Knowledge of and experience with federal organizations, federal facility energy policies and mandates, and energy management strategies and goals
  • Experience in organizational leadership, management, and technical services business development
