About the Position:
GPTech is seeking a Sustainable Development Associate to support GPTech’s Sustainable Development Practice Area and its existing client contract vehicles with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), and other domestic clients. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to engage in a range of assignments focused on the achievement of the sustainable development goals of clean energy, clean water, sustainable cities, climate action and industry, innovation, and infrastructure.
The position will be located in GPTech’s Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, and report to the Director of Sustainable Development. We work under a hybrid model and require this position to be in the office a minimum of two days per week.

Responsibilities:
- Research, analyze, design, propose, and implement sustainable development projects in the focus areas of agriculture and food security, sustainable economic development through low-carbon energy, environmental impact and climate change mitigation, climate-resilient infrastructure, and smart transportation in developing economies.
- Apply skills for the successful pursuit of funding opportunities, including business development capture, level of effort estimation, technical and cost proposal development, and synergistic team building.
- Apply funded project analysis and support skills, including budget development and monitoring, staff management and mentoring, project feasibility analysis, project finance, business model analysis using indicators such as net present value and return on equity, net-zero emissions modeling, clear and concise communications, task and project planning, policy and market trend analysis, and collaboration in a close-knit team environment.
- Support other Practice Areas specializing in sustainable energy and infrastructure.
- Perform other related duties as needed assigned by your supervisor, the GPTech Director of Sustainable Development.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business, international development, sustainability, or a related field
- 7–10 years of project support experience relevant to one or more of the areas of agriculture and food security, climate change, and project finance
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Able to communicate complex concepts to a variety of audiences
- Eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English
- Proficient with software tools for research, analysis, reporting, communications, and collaboration
- Prior experience in developing-country energy development programs or projects, which may include work experience with consulting firms, development organizations, or non-profit entities and/or study-abroad or volunteer experience with multi-national organizations, such as the Peace Corps, Engineers Without Borders, Mercy Corps, or other entities involved in sustainable development
- Knowledge of overall development and sector challenges, opportunities, and solutions, including energy, water, transport, and environmental issues; emissions mitigation or reduction; climate change adaptation and mitigation; and infrastructure reliability and resiliency
- PMP or PMD certification
- Working fluency in languages spoken in African, Latin American, and Asian countries, e.g., French, Spanish, and Portuguese
