Melick-Tully & Associates, a Division of GZA GeoEnvironmental Inc., has an opening for an office Geotechnical Engineering Assistant Project Manager to successfully execute all aspects of geotechnical engineering projects in our South Bound Brook, New Jersey Office. The successful candidate will represent the Company with the client throughout proposal and project performance phases, will be responsible for day to day execution of technical and financial aspects of each project, will be involved with marketing activities and networking events, and will be involved with the development and mentoring of field staff. Long term ownership opportunities with the potential for advancement to principal levels.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Internal and client communications
  • Managing the project office and field staff and day to day activities of projects
  • Monitoring projects for compliance with contractual agreements
  • Providing business development support
  • Preparing proposals and reviewing/writing geotechnical reports with Principal guidance and review
  • Staff training and staff review
  • Managing project execution and budgeting (including changes in scope, billing, etc.)

Typical Duties May Include:
  • Manage and mentor GZA field engineers and geologists
  • Supervision of field personnel, and monitoring and documenting geotechnical aspects of construction projects
  • Conducting/reviewing technical analyses/calculations
  • Participating in meetings and client consultation
  • Preparation of geotechnical investigation design and construction compliance reports
  • Developing design and construction plans and specifications
  • Preparation of proposals and networking to identify work opportunities and develop new clients
  • Performing and overseeing geotechnical computer modeling. Experience with geotechnical engineering programs including SEEP/W, SLOPE/W, L-pile and Plaxis is desired.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering required (Master’s degree desirable)
  • 5+ years of relevant experience since college graduation
  • Experienced computer skills using MS Office and engineering software such as slope stability and shallow and deep foundations
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Experience with financial project management
  • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills
  • Experience in execution and management of office and field tasks
  • P.E. required
  • Occasional out of town assignments may be expected. Candidate must have consistent means of transportation to/from project sites and client meetings.
