GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is currently seeking a motivated Waterfront Engineer/Project Manager to support our marine/waterfront practice in the Northeast region.  This person can be based out of any of our offices in the following locations: New Jersey, New York City, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, and Massachusetts. The successful candidate should be versatile, having an interest in both the structural and geotechnical aspects of waterfront facility design, as well as, a desire to become involved in project management and client relationships.  A strong technical background and a professional demeanor are required. Starting position will be based upon the candidate’s education and experience. Advancement will be dependent upon the candidate’s abilities, initiative, ambition, and success

GZA’s Waterfront Engineers/Project Managers, work on a wide variety of civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering assignments related to the marine environment with particular emphasis on marine geo-structural projects in conjunction with a strong and dedicated team of engineers, managers and principals. GZA’s close-knit culture and interoffice collaboration  will allow you to apply your expertise and diversify your skill set by participating in challenging projects. You will be mentored by seasoned professional engineers, who in turn will look to you to mentor other members of the design team by sharing your technical knowledge and ideas. Initially, the prime responsibilities of the successful candidate will be technical engineering supporting office and field aspects of waterfront projects. Secondary responsibilities will include assisting principal engineers with team coordination and client communication. With advancement in GZA, the successful candidate will  gain responsibilities including representing GZA with clients throughout proposal, contract, and project performance phases; being responsible for day to day execution of all technical and financial aspects of projects; participating in marketing activities and networking events; as well as; developing and mentoring staff.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Perform engineering analyses/calculations for the assessment, design and construction of piers, bulkheads, mooring structures, and shore protection structures
  • Perform condition surveys and evaluations of existing waterfront structures
  • Write field and engineering reports, technical specifications, and other technical documents
  • Conduct technical analyses/calculations including development of environmental loading criteria, berthing and mooring analyses, structural modeling, soil structure interaction, member and detail design, and cost estimating
  • Support production of construction drawings and preparation of bid documents
  • Monitor and document geotechnical and structural aspects of construction projects
  • Work with multidisciplinary project teams within inter-GZA core service groups and external subconsultants and contractors
  • Communicate effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients and team members
  • Complete of 10-hour Construction Course, 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training, and obtain a TSA TWIC card

Goals:
 
  • Complete various Waterfront Structural Analyses and Design
  • Manage project team, delegate office and field staff, and execute day to day activities of projects
  • Conduct internal and client communications
  • Monitor team performance for compliance with contractual agreements and budgets
  • P.E. registration (if not already attained)


Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s Degree specializing in Structural Engineering a plus)
  • P.E. preferred, but not required. Candidate will be expected to become registered.  
  • 6+ years of structural engineering or related experience with knowledge of applicable codes and regulations
  • Self-starter able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to perform and manage field tasks and activities
  • Demonstrate professional judgment, consistency, and strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrate performance of analysis, problem solving and strong organizational skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in the northeastern United States or similar climate is preferred
  • Out of town travel may be expected.  Candidate must have consistent means of transportation to/from project sites.
