GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to support the Construction Management practice in our Livonia, Michigan (Metropolitan Detroit) office.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Senior Project Manager providing construction management and/or engineering services within the decommissioning, demolition, abatement, decontamination, renovation, hazard/regulated materials assessment and mitigation, remediation, and related disciplines. 
  • Conduct and oversee projects and manage scopes, schedules, and budgets to meet clients’ needs according to internal accounting and loss prevention practices. 
  • Manage projects as owner’s representative/engineer, construction manager, and/or construction manager at-risk.
  • Lead project teams on projects that include decommissioning, demolition, abatement, and environmental related construction/contracting activities with focus on safety and protection of human health and the environment.
  • Knowing, understanding, and following applicable codes, regulations, and laws.  These may include those pertaining to typical safety hazards and regulated material/environmental conditions encountered during the work.  Safety conditions may include demolition/decommissioning hazards, heavy equipment, working at heights, confined spaces, excavations, respiratory risks, documentation and professional licensing, and other OSHA requirements.   Regulated materials and environmental risks encountered during the work may include asbestos, lead, silica, PCBs, mold, mercury/mercury vapor, and similar. 
  • Developing, expanding, and nurturing client relationships through completion of high-quality work within agreed scope/schedule/budget for our clients and active business development efforts. Maintaining client relations including conflict resolution.
  • Willingness to support and grow practice internally within GZA and externally to industry sectors such as automotive, power utility, oil/gas, pharmaceutical, chemical manufacturing, mining, brownfield/redevelopment, governmental, and others. 
  • Pursue professional development and participation in appropriate professional and trade organizations.
  • Preparation and/or supervision of proposals consistent with GZA's pricing strategy, policies and procedures, and financial responsibilities including the punctual invoicing of clients, collection of accounts receivables, and assisting in the preparation of budgets and business plans.
  • Assemble project teams using resources available throughout the Company and sub-consultants as appropriate which are capable of successfully completing the project.
  • Professionally represent GZA in its key contacts with clients, sub-consultants, vendors, regulatory agencies, and the community.
  • Provide technical quality assurance for all technical assignments.
  • Recognize the need for and exercise loss prevention activities to control GZA's risks.
  • Mentor and train staff to help develop both their technical and professional skills.

Special Skills/Requirements:
  • 10 or more years of experience within the decommissioning, demolition, abatement, decontamination, renovation, hazard/regulated materials assessment and mitigation disciplines.
  • Project management experience within the aforementioned disciplines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is recommended.
  • Familiarity with the industrial/manufacturing industry, particularly automotive sector safety, quality, standards/protocol, and priority expectations is a plus. 
  • Existing valued client relationships within the industry.
  • Understanding of regulations such as OSHA, waste storage/labeling/disposal regulations, AHERA, NESHAP, RCRA, TSCA, and relevant state/local regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and mentor staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects within agreed scope/schedule/budget with focus on delivering high-quality results.  Focused on overall customer experience.
  • Experience in preparing field documentation, project specifications, and reports a plus.
  • Availability to work Monday - Friday and evenings/weekends as warranted by project demands.
  • Ability to travel overnight as warranted by project demands.
  • Strong attention to detail with analytical and judgment capabilities.
  • Ideal candidate will possess the following professional traits: ability to multi-task, take initiative and be highly motivated, lead a team of diverse professionals, manage project deadlines and budgets, and demonstrates a good work ethic.
  • Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license in good standing.

  • 10-hour OSHA Construction Industry Safety Training
  • 40 hour HAZWOPER Training
  • EPA Accredited Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor Training
  • EPA Accredited Asbestos Inspector Training
  • EPA Accredited Asbestos Project Manager Training
  • Asbestos Air Monitoring/NIOSH 582 Training
  • Valid State asbestos inspector and/or monitor license(s)
