The ideal candidate will have an outstanding reputation in the Ontario market, is entrepreneurial, and excited to be part of a dynamic, exciting and growing consultancy. You will have a balanced business development with project delivery in one or more disciplines of environmental consulting. Your strong technical credentials including a university degree related to Environmental Science or Engineering and ideally a professional designation (P.Eng, P.Geo, PAg, etc.) will well-position you for this opportunity. Other experiences of value are management of multiple, concurrent projects (ranging up to at least $10 million), leadership, team building, communication and financial management.

Your Responsibilities:

Business Leadership:
 
  • Develops / facilitates a vision for the Region in alignment with Hemmera’s Strategic Plan, along with an annual operating plan and budget.
  • Defines business objectives and monitors service area performance to ensure that it is meeting planned targets and objectives, identifying and resolving issues, and managing the financial results.
  • Ensures that effective operational, project and proposal control and risk management practices are implemented in the service area - consistent with Hemmera's policies and approaches.
  • Fosters the development of the Hemmera culture within business, ensuring practices are aligned and engaged.
  • Ensures effective communication, and exchange of best practices, knowledge, and expertise between staff in various locations and with various specialties.
  • Accountable for implementation of health and safety plans and quality processes on all work, project and reports within their service area.

Marketing / Business Development:
 
  • Develops and maintains a strong knowledge of the business and service area, including competitive forces.
  • Ensures the development and execution of a service area Marketing Plan in collaboration with others as appropriate, as a base for planning growth and development.
  • Promotes business growth through appropriate investments and enhancements of existing capabilities, the identification of opportunities to establish specialized skills in new locations, and the identification / communication of merger, acquisition, and alliance opportunities.
  • Maintains a high personal profile in the external marketplace and participates directly in the marketing of significant opportunities.
  • Leads the development of key business proposals to maximize win rate, and secure business that supports growth plans.

People & Talent:
 
  • Promotes and maintains a culture of teamwork and cooperation within the Ontario region and between other areas of the organization.
  • Directs the recruitment, selection, hiring, deployment, development, retention and termination of employment for all people in the service area.
  • Fosters the development of people to ensure they have the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform their roles, including formalized training, on the job training, coaching, and stretch assignments.
  • Undertakes workforce planning and builds the talent pool to meet current and future needs.
  • Manages performance of talent within the service area, addressing performance issues and working to resolve performance gaps as well as resourcing needs.

Client Relationship Management:
 
  • Takes a lead role in the development of new client relationships and participates in management of existing clients.
  • Monitors client satisfaction and works to resolve client concerns or project issues.
  • Identifies and pursues opportunities to strengthen client relationships including organizing client events.

Technical and Project Delivery Leadership:
 
  • Provides strategic leadership and support in building high functioning teams to deliver high quality technical services.
  • Provides oversight and leadership to the management of project teams to ensure that technical services are delivered in a manner consistent with Hemmera quality objectives and that clients receive high quality technical services and project management.
  • Provides senior technical support and leadership, within your area(s) of expertise, to facilitate the delivery of projects and demonstrate the commitment of senior Hemmera staff to both project teams and clients. 

About you:

Along with approximately 20 years of industry experience, you will have at least 12 years of recent experience in a project consulting capacity. You will have a degree related to Environmental Science and ideally a professional designation. Experience in Ontario is essential and some exposure to projects in BC and Alberta would be an asset. Other qualifications include:
 
  • Extensive project management experience involving fully managing multiple projects from beginning to end.
  • Project leadership experience as a Senior Project Manager, Project Director, or experience as a Technical Leader / Expert.
  • Exposure to a variety of projects, multiple clients, and various degrees of project complexity.
  • Experience in building a team of professionals to support the business, and delegating responsibility.
  • Demonstrated track record of financial and budget management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and drive to help build a high functioning, profitable, and reputable team.
