JOB TITLE:Early Head Start Home Visitor/Classroom Assistant
REPORTS TO:Head Start Director
SALARY RANGE:$16.00 / hour DOE

The Early Head Start Home Visitor will provide early, continuous, intensive and comprehensive child development and family support services to eligible pregnant women, infants, toddlers and their families through a series of weekly home visits (90 minutes) and scheduled socializations activities. The EHS home visitor will design, plan and carry out developmentally appropriate experiences that meet all component areas of Head Start, the school readiness goals established by the program and the individual needs of the child. Each Home Visitor will maintain a maximum caseload of 10-12 infants, toddlers and/or pregnant women.
  • Conduct weekly 90-minute home visits with each family.
  • Provides 2 socialization experiences monthly, 2 hours each session, for all families.
  • Drive to family home and deliver health, educational, nutritional and child growth and developmental information to parents via weekly meetings.
  • Coordinate with parents to ensure that prenatal, well -child exams, immunizations, health screenings, and nutrition assessments are complete and necessarily follow up occurs.
  • Complete family partnership agreements, developmental screenings, and all other required assessments with families in a timely manner.
  • Assist and support families in locating resources and scheduling appointments with community resources that best meets their needs.
  • Establish a trusting, respectful, culturally responsive, and caring relationship with each child and his/her family.
  • Serve as an advocate between community resources and Early Head Start families to promote, enhance, and monitor the development of each enrolled child.
  • Must possess good organizational skills with sensitivity to details and confidentiality
  • Must be able to effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities and be non-resistant to change. Planning and providing experiences for children that nurture and stimulate their cultural needs.
  • Support the Head Start Classroom as a fill in when needed, work cooperatively with all Head Start staff and parents.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum:  High School diploma or GED.
  • Per Head Start Program Performance Standards: (e) Child and family services staff. (1) Early Head Start center-based teacher qualification requirements. As prescribed in section 645A(h) of the Act, a program must ensure center-based teachers that provide direct services to infants and toddlers in Early Head Start centers have a minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or comparable credential, and have been trained or have equivalent coursework in early childhood development with a focus on infant and toddler development within a year after being hired. An associate degree in early childhood is preferable. Experience in the early childhood field is required.
  • Must have good grammar and writing skills. Must have the ability to write and speak the English language fluently.
  • Must possess basic computer skills
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for minority cultures and experience in working with low-income children and their families.
  • Must possess the ability to work effectively with others and be sensitive to their needs.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical exam, including a test for Tuberculosis; thereafter according to medical professional requirement/recommendation.
  • Must attend training on: Food Handlers Safety Training, First Aid, Adult, Infant & Child CPR within first year of emplyment
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must pass a state and/or Tribal criminal records and background clearance, including fingerprint checks, sex offender registry check, child abuse and neglect registry check.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a reliable personal vehicle available for use in business related travel with a minimum of liability insurance.
