ENVIRONMENTAL DIRECTOR
Status: Permanent/Full Time/Exempt

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain a comprehensive environmental plan to guide development and implementation of environmental resource management programs.
- Address environmental concerns that arise that may affect the tribe.
- Preparation of reservation wide environmental assessments as requested.
- Will perform or work directly with staff conducting water sampling and analysis.
- Coordinate all Tribal environment activities according to program requirements and contract obligations.
- Administer environmental program grants, track work plans and deliverables, complete quarterly reports, summarize accomplishments, and prepare and monitor program budgets.
- Develop program proposals/applications for federal and state EPA funds and other grants opportunities.
- Draft applicable Tribal codes and ordinances relating to Tribal environmental programs for presentation to the Tribal Council.
- Submit monthly reports to Tribal Council and attend Tribal Council meetings when requested.
- Submit quarterly reports due within 30 days of the end of each quarter. These reports will provide; Status of each work plan task, status of expenditures for the reporting period, summary of accomplishments, discuss problems, which have or are expected to impact performance, & identify tasks, which are not on, schedule & propose anticipated dates of completion.
- Promote working relationships with tribes, local, state & federal agencies re: environmental issues and regulations.
- Coordinate Tribal environmental activities with other Tribal programs and with outside agencies.
- Provide education and outreach to the community members, departments, and schools.
- Manage and direct environmental program staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences or related field
- 5 years of experience in a related field
- 3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent computer skills and familiarity with GIS, Microsoft Office and other relevant software programs. Proven ability to work independently and in cooperation with other departments and staff.
- Leadership skills, exercise good judgement.
- Knowledge of budgeting and grant writing.
Other Requirements:
- Pass pre-employment drug screen and Comply with Drug-Free Workplace Policy.
- Ability to travel & attend weekend Tribal Council Meeting upon request.
- Valid Driver’s License with good driving record.
- Proof of Educational Degree.
