Peer Recovery Specialist 1
Department: Alcohol & Substance Abuse Program
Report to: Program Coordinator
Status: Permanent/Full-time/Non- exempt
Salary: $20.00 / hour


Responsibilities:
  • Management of the weekly on reservation sobriety activities and functions.
  • Research and provide education regarding sober activities and events off the reservation.
  • Assist in coordinating sober activities, events and outreach for Health and Wellness Department and Chemehuevi Indian Tribe. This may include evenings and weekends.
  • Work closely with Tribal Members, employees, and residents on substance abuse and mental health recovery.
  • Make available all materials, documents and virtual resources for recovery support.
  • Provide non-clinical (emotional, informational, resources, affiliation) support to program participants, initiating and assisting with long term recovery.
  • Act as Liaison between the Chemehuevi Tribe Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program director and client, regarding treatment plans and progress, level of care and resources necessary to support the recovery of the client.
  • Obtain Peer Recovery Specialist certification for the state of California.
  • Obtain White Bison Certification for Peer recovery support, Red Road and Mending Broken Hearts programs.
  • Coordinate, display and maintain flyers for the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Program.
  • Manage office and building supply inventory; upkeep of inside and outside of Wellness Center
  • Behave in a manner that supports positive sober values, attitudes, beliefs and actions. Cultural Humility and acceptance of ALL persons' beliefs. Employee must be able to accept different cultures, values and beliefs to support all tribal citizens, employees and community members.
  • Train to use and implement documentation software (AZZLY.)
  • Documentation and reporting requirements as outlined by California department of Health Care Services.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Chemehuevi history and culture preferred.
  • Experience in Red Road Curriculum, recovery culture and groups; 12 steps.
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders, recovery tools and resources.
  • Minimum six (6) months successful recovery. Current engagement in relapse prevention services
  • Experience in substance abuse and behavioral health related fields.

Other Requirements:
  • Adhere to Drug-Free Workplace Policy, pre- employment drug testing required.
  • Valid Driver's License and good driving record.
  • Ability to travel when required.
  • Background Check.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule, evenings and some weekends.
