Criteria:
Education/Experience:
High school diploma (GED) with minimum of four years of experience in gas pipefitting.
Skills/Abilities:
Excellent customer relations skills and verbal communication skills. Ability to think logically in solving problems. PC literate. Mechanical and technical skills a plus.
Certifications/Licenses:
Master Gas Pipefitter License
Must successfully complete ITS Study Courses within 6 months.
Physical Demands:
The ability to use a computer keyboard effectively. The ability to orally communicate by phone, radio & person to person. The ability to see and read printed material. The ability to lift, carry and use heavy tools and materials. The ability to climb and perform work from a ladder. The ability to safely operate a standard equipped company motor vehicle. The ability to operate company field service installation equipment. The ability to enter/exit 22” diameter accesses as well as work in confined spaces. The ability to work in attics, basements, crawl spaces, and other similar spaces.
Work Environment:
Indoor/outdoor conditions. At risk for gas fire/explosions or electrocution. At risk for exposure to unsanitary/unhealthy and unsafe conditions. Location & work hours are determined by Management & may be adjusted as needed. Subject to on-call 24/7.
Driving:
Must have and maintain a valid Tennessee Class “D” license.
Propane delivery requires Class “B” license with Hazmat & Tanker Endorsement.
Telephone:
Must maintain an operating telephone and furnish the number to his/her supervisor.

Essential Functions:
- Works “read and change” service orders.
- Works turn offs for electric, gas, and water.
- Works meter changes for electric and water services.
- Sets water meters.
- Sets (5-) and below electric meters.
- Works rereads and high bill inquiries for electric, gas, and water.
- Operates the field service radio system using established procedures.
- Investigates water leaks and determines severity.
- Checks water pressure.
- Reviews and interprets work orders, circuit diagrams and follows standard practices.
- Interfaces with customers on construction installation or repair work.
- Interacts with customers to verify that work to be done is as requested. Evaluates customer needs. Educate on proper usage. Takes action to satisfy customer and enhances JEA’s image.
- Performs work both inside and outside.
- Responds to service calls.
- Maintains and stocks company vehicle with parts.
- Maintains tools and equipment assigned.
- Works call in the field service rotation.
- Completes documentation and reports information for work performed as required.
- Follows safety guidelines and procedures.
- Builds gas meter installations.
- First responder to gas leaks and carbon monoxide calls.
- Uses electronic equipment to determine level of carbon monoxide, natural gas, or other gases present on site.
- Connects gas ranges and dryers.
- Conducts gas load surveys.
- Converts gas ranges from natural gas to propane.
- Operates ClickSoft service order program.
- Inspects, adjusts, and repairs gas water heaters, gas space heaters, gas circulators, gas central heating plants, gas boiler heating plants, and gas cook stoves.
- Terminates service to appliances that are not safe to operate.
- Performs additional duties as requested.
